What's your favourite audio tool and why ?

I think mine is my ATC SCM monitors ... or my 1176.

Getting to the end of a project yesterday, just acoustic guitar and vocals, but the client wants lots of options and wanted to be able to spend a few days at home with different mixes and takes. So my fave bit of gear as of now is the Mac OS with Time Machine. Firstly, file management is a breeze for doing re calls, cataloguing mixes, consolidating files for back up etc. Secondly, Time Machine pretty much ensures that I never loose a take. Even in mastering I can recall a mix precisely and tweak it. Thirdly, loading PT sessions, copying files and burning discs is instantaneous even on a quad core. So I can actually have a life. Try doing that with tape! :)

If you'd asked me 6 months ago I would say the RE20. :)

Sometimes I like to mix it up and use my G-Series SSL ... You know how it is with those old Neves, they are sometimes a bit soft sounding.

+1, especially as an undecoded MS pair.
