All depends where you're based, if you're close to an exchange / have proper line of site etc etc...
UPC seems to be the decent ones at the moment...if you're location is eligible.

most providers have maps on their websites to check if you qualify for BB in your area.

Me too, I'm living in Dalkey and using vodafone broadband (dongle). It was working fine up until about 3 weeks ago and since then it has become painfully slow. Going to call today. Please let me know if anyone has a good broadband provider for the Dalkey area.

I've been having the same experience with for the past few months, Stuck in an 18 month contract and had a number of calls to their customer service mostly being on hold and getting nowhere. Ive gotten to a point where im basically just putting up with them now. Sick of tryna complain and getting clueless customer care reps filling me with crap excuses.

At the moment i'm on a speed of 0.25MB/s Download and Upload. Whereas 3 days ago my speed was 4.75MB/s and upload of 1.25MB/s. Terrible service.

Safe to say as soon as my contracts up i'm changing providers.

If your getting terrible service then tell them you either want the service fixed to acceptable usage or out of your contract since they're failing to supply you with an acceptable service. Don't fall for the modem upgrade thing, to my knowledge it's a load of rubbish unless your modem is really out dated.
You can test the other companies on a return basis, 7-14 day depending on the company but remember, just because you get good service on the test week doesn't mean you'll have that speed always.

I think if I rang up customer care they'd struggle to understand what a contract actually is. They never seem to know whats going on. Think I will try get it sorted this week. But you know these guys. They've an excuse for everything in the form of Terms & Conditions. Probably turn it around and say i'm in the wrong.

This is exactly the problem with a mobile network being used in place of a fixed broadband solution. This is why people should not be using mobile Internet access for anything but mobile requirement.

People have gotten out of contracts before when the provider is unable to provide an acceptable "broadband" service. It will take time, and will not be easy, and you will need to give them plenty of opportunity and time to fix the problem. Document everything, and keep records of speed tests over an extended period of time (over the course of a month perhaps, at various times of the day and night).

I do agree but the fact is the prices some of these fixed broadband companies charge is ridiculous. Adding on line rental on top of the charge. Tried to get the UPC 8Meg broadband but they werent able to install it due to the lines not being upgraded in my area. Which is why I have to settle for Mobile Broadband.

I've used Three, Meteor and Vodafone Broadband and only the Vodafone one has given me any trouble over the years. And there's me thinking they were the best... I don't know where that reputation came from.

Stats are meaningless to the individual. In general, O2 look to be the worst performing 3G Internet supplier now, though for any 1 person they might be the best. Your experience of Vodafone is of no real concern or indication to anyone else, though at the same time it could be the exact same as another persons.

There is no best mobile operator, and there never will be, except if you can find the one that works for you. Even then, it could be crap tomorrow.

Line rental and eircom's very high broadband pricing is keeping a lot of people out of the real broadband market, and they are losing thousands of customers every month because of it, but if you want real broadband, then you may have to pay for it. The resellers often offer better value, and if you can get LLU from Smart or Magnet, it's generally cheaper again. Fixed wireless is another option.

    About 7,000 customers a month.
