    Hi All,

First of all congrats to those who passed their exams today, after the trouble we had logging on to get the results I think we all deserved an extra few % :D

Just wondering if anyone can recommend which courses to take and where. I will most likely take F4 (have passed F5 and would like to leave F6 until Dec 2011, unless I really need it for the other subjects?!!) and one or two others. Can anyone tell me if F7, F8 & F9 are more theory based or numerical, and recommend a college for these?

    Thanks a million!!

F7 & F9 are very numerical based and would defo need to go to college for them. F8 is theory based but is quite tricky

You should attend classes for F7 it is a very tough paper. Dave O'Donoghue at Independent Colleges is the best lecturer for this but I hear good things about Dave Ahern at DBS as well.
F8 you could study on your own, if you go to classes check out Dave at Independent or Shaun Brown at BPP both make a very heavy subject managable
F9 Patrick Lynch at DBS has a strong reputation
    Good luck with your studies

I Had mick Bristow for F9 in Independant Colleges.. found him excellent as is Dave who does F7 and F8 in independant also..

as another poster mentioned F7 and F9 are hard going.. personally i wouldnt do both together, as course content is huge... myabe F7 and F8.. both hard but one is numeric and the other discursive etc.. so may be easeier to pass.. then F9 and P1 would be a good combination..

    Best of Luck :D

Sorry for derailing the thread but I don't see the point in starting a new one. I just have a quick question; when am I eligble to sit P1? Is it when you've completed all the F papers?

I want to do the Ethics module, but the website says I have to wait until I'm eligble to sit P1, and I'm just not sure when that is.......

Nope you can sit P1 while sitting another F paper... I did P1 and F7 together... i had F9 already completed...

you cannot do any option papers until all F's are completed! :o

Say you did F7 and P1 together but passed P1 and failed F7. Do you have do P1 again? i.e. all F's must be passed....

As mentioned F8 is more theory but can be difficult to get your head around. You should go to classes for F7 as it is one of the most difficult ACCA exam and Dave O'Donoghue at Independent Colleges makes it very enjoyable (hard to believe) I cannot recommend him highly enough. He also does F8 and again for a terrible boring subject he certainly brings the thing to life and sets you up for the exam
Classes are advisable for F9, I would recommend either Tom McStraw of BPP or Mick Bristow at Independent for that one both are excellent.

Just a point to consider about delaying the F6 until Dec 2011, if you fail, there will be a slightly different syllabus in June 2012 depending on what goes on in the 2011 budget.

No, you wouldn't have to do P1 again. Once you pass an exam, it's done with, thankfully!

No, they will let you carry the P1, but at the next sitting you have to sit F7 again with or before your next P (e.g. P3) and so on always attempting the remaining paper(s) from the lower section to be allowed try the ones from the upper section at the same sitting. (Assuming F7 is your last F.)
I also believe the timetabling is organised that you cannot sit P2 until F7 is completed and therefore could not attempt any options until it is completed, because you would have to be attempting all lower papers (i.e. both F7 and P2) in the one sitting to be eligible for P4-7 and this is not possible.

The general rule is you could sit up to 4 as long as you have passed, or are sitting concurrently, all modules from the lower section (F1-3; F4-9; P1-3) e.g. you are eligible to sit P1, 2 or 3 when you have completed F1-3 and at least three subjects from F4 to F9 as long as you are sitting all the remaining Fs as well as the P.

F9 is next level up from F5, so have a lot in common. A lot of calculations.

    F4 & F8 both theoretical

F7 - I personally found the hardest subject of all "F's" to pass if you study on your own like me. So like someone already mentioned: if you can only afford the college fee for one exam, let it be F7.

I have passed both F7 and F9 in this Dec'10 sitting, so do think that it is OK to combine two numerical exams.
Also, I have never went to college to study any of the ACCA subjects, so it is possible to pass F-level studying at home (if the cost of lectures are an issue).

Thanks for all the replies. Will definitely look into Dave O'Donoghue for F7. Out of curiosity though (and laziness - closest college to me :D) has anyone had Reg Callanan in Griffith College?

I have another question while I'm picking your brains! What way does it work with the variants? I'm currently down for the Irish variant for law & taxation but does this mean I can't sit international for F8 (which I have been told is the more worthwhile variant to sit). Should I switch to international for all / is it better to sit the irish variant for some and not for others.

Thanks to all for clearing things up a bit for me!

I just had Reg in Griffith for F7, i passed well but i would put that down more so to my own work i put in rather than his lecturing as i found him extremely difficult to follow. Does anybody have any knowledge on Michael O'Grady for F9 and Umesh Rana for F8 in Griffith Collge?
