Hi all I am trying to write out a cover letter for applying for jobs. I have the layout but am a bit stuck on what to put in it. Ok so I start with what I am doing now(one paragraph?) should I be putting my exam results here?; what I am looking for in a job? and then what else? Do I put my past jobs in aswell? I am in my last year of college so am looking for a grad job. Any input greatly appricated:) Also should the letter be about 1 page or would that be too long?

Every CL should be different, and ideally should be emailed directly to a HR person and hiring manager, and addressed to them. You can find their contact details via the 'net or calling the company itself.

Stay clear of "Sir / Madam..."

Hi orchidsrpretty. I am currently in the same position so I'll tell you what I have in my cover letter.

Paragraph one - Where I found the ad, what course I am doing(Bachelor of...) and what result i expect to graduate with (instead of listing results from each year - which would be in your CV.)

Paragraph two - Explaining why I wanted to apply for job, what skills I have that I can bring to the company, what experience I gained from work placement/part-time employment.

Paragraph three - I enclose my CV.

Paragraph four - Thank you for your time.I look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

    name.

You should google cover letters also and combine to best bits of the ones you find to make one that won't be the same as everyone else's.

    Hope that helped :)
