qs on hotmail verification by phone number and no access to gmail account

i am being asked to verify my hotmail account with my ph number cos i sent emails to a persons deactivated account and this is regarded as spamming

is it safe to provide your ph number to these webmail sites

also i have not being able to accesss my gmail account as it says password incorrect. last time i used it was june/july.

when i contacted them on their website to verify my account by giving info on my address book and most frequent contacts along with my password they would'nt accept it.

im not sure if someone has hacked my account and changed passwords. is their anyting i can do to retrieve the accouint at this stage

No, I doubt it.

I have a thread open with hotmail staff about resetting my password and they never ask for phone number.

Gmail however you can set it up to reset your password to your phone

my password works for hotmail account.

i can receive mail but the problem is i cant send mail without providing my phone number.

i sent mail to an old address which is no longer working so they stopped me from sending mail altogether

can you explain how to do that. i was not given that option. i was asked for my security qs but i had set that to random letters for security.

the thing is i remember my password so someone must have hacked into the account
