Hi I'm a 20 y/o male looking to buy my first car. Been driving for a year now just using my parents Golf which I love driving.

Don't really know much about cars when it comes to buying and trading. I have about 3000 to spend

    Cars I like are:
    Passat
    Vectra
    Bora
    Golf

But thats not exhaustive. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Would the cars listed above be boyracer insurance nightmares? Any other recommendations?

The car sorry, should have made that clear.

I'd find these four very boring to drive. Given your age, insurance is going to be very expensive. How about the likes of a Fiesta 1.25? Or a Focus, if you're set on something bigger.

Had my sights set on something bigger tbh. Quite used to the volkswagen style so wanted to stick with that. Does the focus have a diesel model?

Focus 1.6 is way nicer to drive than the golf and more reliable too. You won't get a decent 1.8 diesel spec focus with the budget there.

I see. Do you reckon some of these are good value for money then? Particularly something like this perhaps with less mileage.

I've driven the MKIV golf 1.9tdi and the focus 1.6 petrol and personally I found very little in it. I actually preferred the golf but the are both ok cars. Neither will set the world on fire but not much for 3K will.
