Broken hinge on Samsung N510

Hi lads, the hinge on my Samsung N510 has been cracked and broken for quite a while now. It is definitely on it's last legs now and within a week or 2 i'd say that it will have fully snapped which will leave just one hinge holding it together.
Does anybody know anywhere that could fix this?
Or even any sites I could order the parts off and fix myself?

I've been recommended to try http://www.repairtech.ie based on Blessington st. just off Dorset st. in Dublin.

I too have a hinge problem and have been quoted €85 for a repair on the phone. Going in tomorrow to suss it out, will post how I get on!

A normal hinge replacement is usually around €60. Acer had a serious problem with their hinges a few years ago, They were tightening with use - causing eventual rigidness that cracked the lid, as opposed to getting looser with use.

Anyway, i know someone that got it fixed and AFAIK €60 is the going rate for most hinge repairs, Although it is a fairly simple procedure and hinges can be bought anywhere between €5 and €20 on ebay or similar.

All that said, The Samsung N510 has been getting many complaints about this issue, and are now on the brink of admitting it, although, seeing as we live in Ireland, it's unlikely that it will be of any benefit to us, (As with Nvidia, Dell, HP etc..)

Read about it on below link with video, You might get Samsung Ireland in a good mood, or should even be able to convince them to fix it free of charge, as it is a warranty issue.

    LINK

    Similar LINK

Some report that Samsung Acknowledge it, and repair in Warranty LINK - There's a comment from a guy in Dublin there, so maybe Fonemenders would HAVE to acknowledge it now.?

A quick google search brings up TONS of results..

I popped back up to them today after leaving it in last Thurs (they estimated it'd be ready today), but the hinges had to be ordered in a pair from the UK (I only need the one).

So they said probably this Friday and that it should cost no more than €100 which includes the price of the hinge.

It's a Dell Studio 17 btw if that's of any interest.

Got 'er back today, they did a fine job.

Left hinge replaced, crack in screen casing fixed nicely and some wires fixed that had stopped the power button from working.

€110 altogether in the end, was worth it I reckon coz sending it back to Dell was quoted at about €300. I'm sure there's better deals out there but I'm happy enough with that.

    So it's a +1 for http://www.repairtech.ie from me.

The hinge finally gave up the ghost last night and broke into 3 or 4 different pieces :(

Does anybody know anywhere that I could buy the hinge? I don't want to fork out a fortune to get it repaired, so would rather buy the hinge and fix it myself!

    HI,
There seems to be several components that can be affected by the defective hinge, including stressing and cracking both the upper and lower case mouldings. had a quick look on Ebay Ireland and UK and there are none available. Typical cost for this should be €50 labour plus the parts but because this is a widespread problem with this model the cost of hinges will go up!! As with all small electrical items it is quite often cheaper to chuck them and buy a new one.

I going to give my opinion of Repairtech.ie and it wont be good at all. I brought in a Macbook Air 1st model (A1237) on Tuesday. It was reported by me as 'not turning on'. No specific information was supplied apart from that it wasnt charging on a known working charger, wasnt turning on. I also supplied another logicboard which I bought on eBay sold as working (unverifiable by me) but had had no success with. The laptop was not left in as having a verified logicboard issue.

There website specifically says "No Fix No Fee".
On Wednesday (yesterday) I recieved a text to collect and after I called ahead they said they had repaired the logicboard (declared as water damage) but the 2nd logicboard was dead. They also said the HDD was faulty and would need to be replaced. There was no mention of any other issues remaining.

I paid the fee (which was set by them not me) collected the laptop and discovered the HDD is fine, no issues. OS is installed and functioning, all scans report HDD ok. However, the keyboard and trackpad do not work. This would have been easily discovered if they had used a USB keyboard or mouse. They didn't.

I called on the phone today to report the remaining fault, that the laptop is not fully functioning, that I also had a keyboard and trackpad assembly to 'complete the job'. Out of nowhere the gentleman who was very polite when handing over my money began shouting down the phone, began stating he hated when people treat them like fools, and that he was a good Christian and stated he would not repair the laptop even if I brought in the assembly or paid further, which he had tried to make me do earlier on the call, which I was not prepared to do. Without any question of it becoming a legal matter he told me to take the matter to the European Courts.

Instead of the European Courts I will be making a formal complaint under the consumer rights procedures in Ireland and if necessary take the matter to court, which I fully expect to be required.

This is my own personal experience. In over 20 years dealing with electronics companies, many in the business directly, I have never seen this form of behaviour from anyone. Its your choice who you do business with but as a personal opinion I wont be doing any business with them outside of a court again.

    Jesus that's shocking service

After getting a quote of their website to fix the hinge on my netbook, I decided not to go to them. The price was extorinate for a small piece of plastic!
The right hand side hinge has now started to give way, and my charger has packed it in, so i've decided it's not worth getting it fixed seeing as it's a year and a half old, so i'm on the hunt for a new one instead!

I've had bad customer service on countless occasions. This wasn't poor customer service, this was/is a complete and prima facie breach of contract. On their own website it states "No fuzzy logic with us. When we don't repair, we do not merit getting paid". Its not repaired but they have stated I'm not entitled to anything further. Just to ensure everyone is clear no additional components were required for Repairtech.ie to complete the work. All parts were supplied and/or offered. The fee requested by them, and paid by me, was for labour only. Under the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act 1980 as a service I am entitled to reasonable care and conduct in the provision of that service, they didn't provide that.

I wont be going in to see them physically as I do not wish to risk that mans verbal outbursts, his astonishing overblown reaction to a customer contacting them relating to a contracted business issue, escalating. Nobody should be permitted to act in the manner above in a business environment as they have done, its against the law.

Edit: Oh and just in case Repairtech.ie want to claim I am speaking out of turn regards them I was told yesterday by the very person who I contacted above, to tell everyone I know about them and what they do. I am obliging them and I can guarantee I will be doing so in every way shape and form I know of for a very long time to come.
