Ground Work for House Extension

    Hi All,

I am in the process of getting quotes for a self build house extension (40msq).

I have recieved a couple of quotes for ground work. There is a good chance that we will hit rock once we start digging and one person who quoted asked if I would be happy just laying 2 courses of blocks in the foundation if we hit rock instead of three. I am aware that 3 is the standard but I am unsure of agreeing to only 2 courses and hence the post.

He also has quoted for 6 inches of concrete for the floor. Is this the normal depth of a concrete floor.

    Thanks in advance.

Best advice here imo is to get an engineer on board to make the call, asap, before you agree any price for works. Each site is different and a typical foundation may not suit given the ground conditions.

6"(150mm) is the standard, but once again, an engineer can make final call given a specific site condition.
