If you crash a car you dont own with "open Driving" on it and you meet the criteria for the open drive on that car AND you have have your own fully comp policy which allows you to drive other cars - which insurance covers you?

Only want to cover the damage to the third party car (i.e. the one I crashed into via insurance - other car damage is small and will cover it meself ).

    It depends on the circumstances.

If I was driving another car with open driving on it (with the permission of the owner) and I crashed it, I'd use that insurance cover for any issues that occurred.

The only instance I wouldn't do that is if the other person was liable to lose their NCB (or otherwise be financially impacted) because of my claim.
In that instance I'd look into whether my insurance would cover the repairs.

It's probably worth contacting your insurance company. They probably have a clause to cover which insurance policy takes precedence in this kind of instance.

Also, just be aware that most "open drive" is 3rd party only, so you are not covered yourself..

Read the small print of your own insurance. They probably don't cover it.

I'm with Quinn and my policy can be paraphrased as:
"You are covered 3rd party to drive any vehicle other than your own with the owner's consent. However, this does not extend to any vehicle for which you are covered on another policy"

    So:
    1. If I crashed my mother's car (not open drive, I'm not a named driver), Quinn would cover me 3rd party
    2. If I crashed my girlfriend's car (for which I am a named driver), Quinn will not cover me and her insurance has to pay out (though its comprehensive)

Presumably, if I crashed a car where the insured has an Open Drive policy, Quinn can push back on the insured's provider, unless I didn't meet the Open drive criteria.

So unless you're under 25, I'm guessing that your own insurance company will tell you to go jump. What's worse is you'll have to declare the accident at renewal, increasing your risk profile, though it shouldn't hit your NCB
