Will o2 payg broadband sim work in unlocked three modem?

    Hi.
I unlocked my three modem and gave it to my sister.
She bought an o2 payg broadband sim to use with the unlocked modem.
Initially she had no problem using the two together.
However she is now having trouble logging in on the o2 login page.

    My question is:
Would there be any problem using an o2 payg broadband sim in an unlocked (three) modem.
I can't see why it wouldn't work once it's unlocked.

(incidentally the registration process records the IMEI of the unlocked modem- could this non-o2 IMEI be preventing her logging in? I wouldn't have thought so tbh).

    I'd appreciate help with this.
    Thanks.

If it did work then the problem isn't the modem being locked and if she is connecting and having a problem logging on the problem is unlikely to be due to any block as she wouldn't have been able to "connect" to the network if there was one.

Try in another location and at different times of day as it might just be Mobile Broadband contention - just too many other O2 users for it to work.

I've unlocked 2 modems that i have one from 3 and one from vodafone both work fine with no problems at all.
must be a specific issue to the laptop or sim card or either o2's network is just on overload which happens alot as alot of people are on the o2 network:rolleyes:

    OK thanks.
    Just to be clear.
The mobile connect software connects every time.
It's just when she comes to the prepay login page she can't log in (to buy addons etc).
So this log in problem could be simply a contention issue?
Never thought that would have been the problem tbh.
    Thanks.

If it only fails when it logs on to a site like the O2 prepay login then the difference is that the site will be using https, for security look at the URL for the login screen. So sounds more like an https, which is SSL, issue. Try to see if other logins fail eBay, PayPal, online banking, eircom webmail, Gmail etc.

I mean the o2 prepay login page that comes up when she launches the browser. So even though she is connected she can't log in and get past that page to access the internet.
So she can't test other https sites.
Incidentally (and curiously) she was able to log in and do all this when she used it initially.

OK then just check with another browser, if its IE then some Malware will manage to check the box to use a proxy server before the AV kills it but fails to do a clean up so it could be something as simple as a browser misconfiguration, for IE Tools>Internet options> Connections tab> Lan Settings Button - only thing ticked should normally be Automatically detect settings.

    - Something I'd always check anyway.

    Problem solved.
Something to do with registering again after the free 1 day pass that comes with the sim (or something, i dunno).
O2 sorted out the account anyway.
    Cheers.

A bit late to the post but here goes- I have a 3 broadband and have reached my download limit, so it costs a fortune when they charge per Mb. I want to put an o2 sim into my 3 modem to do me for 3 weeks, how do I unlock the 3 modem?

    Thanks

Might have been better to just start your own how do I unlock thread but we can do it here if you let us know what dongle you have.

About the only one I can't help you with :o, it might not even be locked in the first place but don't have one to try. You could shove in a O2 SIM and create a new profile and see what happens?

Edit> If you still have a 3 contract you can always use a 3 Pay SIM when the contract one has used up its allowance?

Either pay to have it unlocked, or ask Three to unlock it. But don't drag up old and unrelated topics.
