    Hello,

I am getting braces in the next 2 weeks and wish to know when tax should be claimed back- do i need to fill in forms beforehand? Any information on this is good as I did not ask the dentist enough questions.

Also when the braces are complete I will need veneers. How much do veneers typically cost and are they needed on many of the teeth? Is tax claimed on the cost of getting veneers?

    Thanks for any help given
    GM

Why will you need veneers? Are your teeth broken or damaged, or are they very discoloured?

You get a form called a med 2 form at the end to claim back your tax. You do not need to do anything beforehand. You can ask for a med 2 each year for the amount you paid that year and claim each year, or leave it all to the end.

Veneers? How many do you need only you can tell us we cant tell you, the price will vary on the quality and the skills of the dentist, where the dentist is, ranging from 500 - 1500 euro each. Veneers are tax deductible.

The veneers are needed as the teeth are uneven lengths and have got quite alot of fillings.. The dentist recommended 2 veneers.

Yes, veneers are claimable on the Med 2 form. You can submit a Med 2 at the end of each tax year, for whatever you spent that year on qualifying treatments. Or you could wait until all treatment has been completed and claim it all together, as long as it doesn't take longer than 4 years.
And assuming the incoming government doesn't decide to scrap the tax relief on medical / dental expenses!

    hi

also remember there is an excess on claims every year, ideally pay and claim for as much as you can this year, it might be gone next year
