So Tony O'Reilly has nailed his colours to the mast firmly. Not that I'd buy it anyway, ever, but I saw the front page of the Sindo earlier and they may as well be calling the paper the FG Independent. What was once Bertie's port of call for propaganda has now firmly switched allegiances.

It is clear that him and other parts of the media will now do everything in their power over the next week to maximize their vote.

What exactly has Fine Gael promised rich men like O'Reilly? Are they part of their huge campaign fund?

I suspect they are supporting the crowd they expect to win. Next we will see Eoghan Harris singing their praise and RTE being nice to them ;)

thanks to the OP. in the absence of the "Tribune" I bought the Indo today.

It took me less than 3 minutes to go through it. what a rabid rag. No FG vote from me..Its like they are blaming all of our ills on the Public Service, rather than the scum in the Banks/FF/ Builders. I read at least 4 articles which denigrated people who have spent their lives in Service of the Nation.

What has happened to patriotism? Has it been subsumed into the consumer chic that is the mantra of the UGH society?

I wouldnt use the Sindo to wipe me ar*e in case of an infection.

    Are we CONSUMERS or CITIZENS?

    Please come back Tribune !

You only realized today that the Sindo is a rag?
I doubt they are blaming all our ills on the public service, and the fact you are embellishing the truth would make it perfectly obvious you are a public servant. They may be critical of the PS, but yeah, they should be, they should be critical of all aspects of Ireland.

But on behalf on the Irish people, thank you public servant and your fellow servants for living in a dreamland full of jobs-for-life, inefficiency, nepotism, guaranteed pensions, terrible service, half days, weekends off, small opening hours, huge pay rises over the last few decades with an increasingly bad service to show for it.

I am so patriotic for you right now ;)

if you knew me, you would not be able to direct ANY of those comments at me. I have been in many, many jobs both public and private. I can guarantee you that I have seen waste on both sides. Remember the Public Service did not make huge bucks out of the Celtic Tiger. But I have NEVER seen the legalised theft that has occurred with the Banks, NAMA and the developers.

No one will disagree that waste occurred in public and private. It is laughable however that if you did many of the things in the private sector that is commonplace in the public sector, you would be fired. They reward and have rewarded incompetence in the public sector.

Of course no public servant bought any extra houses and cars during the celtic tiger, not one of them

How many developers and landlords are public servants? 0? Not a chance

    Your serious?

You actually think no public servant bought extra property during the boom?
You actually think no public servant are landlords?

    Are you crazy? :D

Seriously, the indoctrination in the PS is a bit Scientologyish at times

Eh okay. Bit weird. Yeah lots of people in the private sector bought property and were/are landlords. Yeah many of them are in financial difficulty now too.

ye see, we have been divided against each other rather than the real enemy. Its not public V Private. We should keep our eyes on the real thieves.

How do you propose the Irish state pays for itself over the next few years if we do not make radical changes to how our public services are staffed and run?

thats an honest question. I hark back to the original "Sinn Fein" ethos of looking after ourselves. What can we create from this damp windy rock in the Atlantic?

    1. Natural resources. Seek assistance from Venezuela how to exploit this rather than Shell etc gaining profit.

    2. Natural Resources. Wind and Wave power on the West Coast to provide electricity to us and Europe.

    3. Intelligence/Imagination/Creativity.

    4. Honesty. stop the quangos. kill all non-essential programmes.

    5. Become Citizens A la James Connolly. Love our Country. Educate our Children from day 1 in the beauty and vitality in being an Irish person.

    6. Proscribe Fianna Fail and all Parish Pump Politics.
