We stayed in St. Nicholas Hostel last year and had a great time - staff were very friendly / helpful and it's near to 2 metro stations.

    some tips:-

Be careful crossing the road as the locals are crazy drivers and have no respect for pedestrians!
Make sure you try Malbec (very good red wine!)
Visit San Telmo Market on Sundays.
Take a Tango lesson .. (great way to meet people)

Hey, I stayed in Hostel Estoril a couple of times. It is on Av de Mayo and just couple of blocks from the Obelisk on Av 9 de Julio. It has a bar with a rooftop terrace and there are usually plenty of people to head out on the town with...

Make you sure get a football game in. If Boca Juniors are at home when your there then they are a must see. Most hostels will have match trips running every weekend.

I second that on the Malbec, a great wine to wash down them tasty steaks they have there :)

I stayed in Hostel Suites Obelisco - it is in a really good location and good atmosphere. staff were nice and they had lots of nights out arranged. I would definately recommend this hostel one of the best I stayed during my trip to Argentina & Uruguay
