I was living at home with my parents but there is no room there really for me and the baby and I havent been getting along with my parents and they dont want me there so the last two weeks I have been sleeping on my aunts couch with my baby. I just applied for a council house but god only knows when ill get one and i was told i cant get rent allowance because i have to be 6 months renting. I dont know what to do and would like some advice! wouldn't mind if it was just myself been homeless not with a two month old baby though. please someone give me advice

Sorry, St. Vincent de Paul's. I have never been in a situation like this, but if I was, i would try contacting them for help. Others may have more useful options. Best of luck op.

contact your community welfare officer. make sure to tell him about the wait of 6 months for rent allowance if that is correct, i have not heardof it but not saying you are wrong either, also having a baby might put your on priority with council and you may get temp bed/breakfast type accommodtion
you might get an exceptional needs payment for deposit on flat

If you don't have any luck with the CWO, then ring Threshold, the housing charity. Their Dublin number is: 01 678 6096. They are great for advice and will help you to know your rights and how to get housing etc. their website is wwwthreshold.ie
    Good luck with everything :)

There is a way to get rent allowance, but you must be assessed by the local council in which you want to live. This isn't as scary as it seems; you have to apply for local authority housing and someone will come out to see where you are currently living to assess your living conditions, space etc. These procedures have to be carried out, the guidelines have to be followed, so don't worry.
Once the assessment has been carried out and you are deemed as in need, even if you are waiting for social housing, you should qualify for rent allowance.
