Just after getting my road bike on the bike2work scheme.
So i'm looking for some advise on what should I be aiming for, i.e distance on the first few weeks. Etc.

I haven't cycled for about 3 years and want to get my fitness levels up and lose a few pounds in the progress.

Also any good routes around the kilcock area?

If I were you I would start off slow. pushing yourself too hard can cause pain in the muscle just above the knee joint.

Personally I would be looking at starting with around 30km and build up slowly on each session from there.
Remember that it is all about how many miles your doing every week rather than the distances you're covering in each session.

With regards finding routes to do. join a local cycling club. don't worry about your level of fitness, a decent club should cater for all abilities. I don't know about local clubs but Stagg Cycles in Lucan have a club and should be able to tell you about clubs in your area if Lucan is too far.
