Thinking about going on a cruise this year in late October. Myself and my partner are in our late 20's. We've thought about the western and eastern caribbean cruises operated by Royal Caribbean .

Has anyone been on either of the ships Freedom of the Seas or the newer Oasis of the Seas. We're looking for advice on where is the best site/travel agent to book with. Don't mind flying from Dublin,Shannon or Cork.

What kind of spending money would you need for the stops such as Mexico, Jamaica etc ? Do all the stops accept American dollars as currency or what's the story ?

Any other advice/tips greatly appreciated .

    Regards
    Mark

I went on a eastern carribean cruise in Jan.. Went with Princess Cruises. Was a great trip..
I booked it through my cousin in the US, saved me €800 compared to the cheapest price I could find here and in the UK.

Book all your day trips etc in advance, I didn't and spent a small fortune booking them on the cruise. All the places I went to took dollars. If the dollar isn't the islands currency they still take it..

We didn't spend that much money on the stops, it depends on what you do... There are day trips that generally include all you'll need (food n drink etc) and if they don't it's all fairly cheap anyway... U can hop on and off the boat so if we got hungry we just went back to the ship and ate for free!

http://www.cruisecritic.com/ Thats the best place to check for info etc. Every cruise ship is reviewed by the site and by users of the site.. Great forum to for tips n tricks..

Thanks a million for the advice. Very helpful. I'll have a look at those now, although Orlando is shaping up to be a likely option now also.
