Remaps for diesel engines . . .

Curious, having just bought a 92BHP Scenic diesel, and I am curious to know if I might be able to have her boosted to 110BHP? The Scenic comes new in two forms, one 92BHP & the other (also 1.6 HDi) in 110BHP form, surely you can get the smaller one remapped up to the 110BHP?

Question; Why the two varients (92BHP/110BHP)? why not produce them all at the higher BHP? and if it is possible to get a remap, are there any negative points we should know of, like will the remap shorten the life of the engine? will the remap mean that the car uses more Diesel? will the remap require any other changes to the vehicle? will it pass an NCT with the higher BHP? Will the 08' tax be affected?

    Thanks in advance.

Is it possible you have the 98bhp one??

    If so,
    It can be remapped

    98 goes to 121 bhp

Torque goes from 147 to 181

    the 102bhp goes to 132
and torque goes from 147 to 188

Q1, God knows why. Many makers do this, the previous generation Mondeo was 90 & 115 bhp.
Q2. A proper remap will not effect the life span of the engine, poor driving and servicing will & can be done to all cars with an ECU.
Q3. A remap can be done to help MPG.
Q4. Some cars may need the Air Flow Meter changed.
Q5. The remap will not cause the car to fail the NCT.
Q6. Tax will not be effected.

Normally the lower powered cars have a fixed turbo charger and either a small or no intercooler. The higher powered variants often use variable geometry turbos and a bigger intercooler. Coupled with the bigger turbo's comes a revised fuel map, and possibly different EGR operating characteristics to get the most out of the VGT turbo. You will also find that torque is also up modestly on top of the headline bhp figures. The difference in hardware accounts for (in part) the price differential between the two power levels when it comes to buying them.

I think its to keep the Co2 emissions down is it not ?

    This is the site I'm considering, to get my BHP boost . . . . . .

    http://www.tuningstyling.co.uk/tuning-styling/renault/renault-scenic-ii-1-5-dci-86-bhp-tuning-styling

It involves a remote control 'fob' wherby you can turn on/off the BHP increase at the touch of a button! sounds great, but is it

If you do get a re-map, it's no harm to mention it to your insurance co.

Just to cover your a$$. Generally there is no increase in premium.

There is an engineering company in Enfield, Co. Meath that sell a version of this. They will put it into your car for a test to show how it works. I looked into it about 3 years ago, costing around €500. Could be a way of testing it and then buy it cheaper from DTK.
