can someone pls give me true story on school swimming - is it compulsory by the Dept of Ed or is it a school thats making it compulsory. some schools don't do it at all and some schools insist it has to be done - at cost to parents.

I'm not in any way seeking advice or words on why they should or shouldn't do it, great exercise, bla bla, just want to understand the curriculum on it.

If parents can't afford to pay and girls have periods, why should they and their parents be subjected to constant harrassement from the school.

In saying all of the above I should confirm that my kids can all swim lengths of pools no problem so I'm not just looking for excuses to get them out of it. I'm on P/A and BOM of school and constantly being asked for the "true" story.
