Hello, im looking to buy my first set of cdjs very soon. Ive used vinyl and the pioneer 800's before but I went the digital route which I now want to move away from. So are the cdj 200's very dated or fine unless you want to use software control or is it worth spending an extra 2-300 for the 400's?

The most important feature you'll get IMO going from 200s to 400s is the ability to use USB drives, not the software controller ability. I'd definitely say it's worth it to have the use of USB drives, makes life a lot easier.

Well ive read on some sites that the technology used in them is dated now, so im wondering is it worth getting the 400s for a few extra hundred or will the 200s do fine for just mixing and effects, as I dont do scratching.

Back when they first came out they allowed you to mix cds and add some effects.
fast forward til today and they still let you do this.there perfectly capable machines, there not the most cutting edge things around but you can still use them.Im not sure what new technology is relevent to these machines, cds havent changed so as long as your using them there is no issue

As was mentioned earlier the usb feature on newer models is usefull but its just a way for the machine to read the music and as long as you dont mind burning cds youll be perfectly capable of djing with these

Ah right I suppose when you put it that way, they would be fine. Am I right in thinking they read MP3 CD's also which would be very handy.

Buy the best you can get. If you bought 400's today, they would stand the test of time for a good few years. 200's are already dated. It would be like buying a 1994 car when you could pick up a 2004 for just a few extra quid.

If you can at all, but the 400's or the 350's.
