Downtown Sounds Celebrates 10 Years of Partying

To mark our Birthday weekend in some style we'll be throwing ourselves a party in Odessa - a 4 story restaurant, live venue and nightclub situated on Dame Court just beside the entrance to Ri-Ra.

This night - taking place on Friday, February 25 - will be all about residents Pablo, Jimmy B, Benway, Louche and Matagouri and a raft of DTS classics - not to mention the small matter of blowing out the candles on the birthday cake, booze giveaways, free mix CD's, disco balloons and a messy after party!

Admission is free but capacity is limited so get in touch with us at info@downtownsounds.org if you want to come down and we will put you on the spangly Downtown Sounds disco list.

Then the following Saturday, March 5th Downtown Sounds is proud to present an intimate 3 hour set by Maurice Fulton with support from Padraic Disconaut, to wrap up our 10th Birthday Celebrations. It'll be taking place in the basement of Kennedy's, where we ran so many great 52FUNK nights over the years.

Maurice is a regular at world renowned clubs like London's Fabric and his productions have been included on compilations by the likes of 2 Many Dj's, Unabombers, Idjut Boys, Trevor Jackson and Four Tet. Over the years he has recorded or remixed for a 'who's who' of underground labels – from Warp, Wave and Classic to Output, Compost, Balihu and his current home, Tirk Records.

Recent projects of note include a full length LP for DFA under the 'Syclops' moniker, an amazing remix of Simian Mobile Disco's collaboration with Beth Ditto of the Gossip, 'Cruel Intentions', as well as a mind warping collaborative LP with African singer Mim Suleiman.

His DJ sets are as broad in range as his production credits, zigzagging smoothly between soul, funk, disco, electroboogie, italo, party classics, house and future dancefloors sounds.

Check out the recording of his Dublin debut for Downtown Sounds in September 2005.

Support on the night comes from Padraic Disconaut, one half of renowned Galway house music outfit The Disconauts. The Disconauts were formed back in 1998 and have played in every city and club across the country that are worth mention. Padraic won’t be joined by the rest of the group on this occasion but he will be treating us to a rare dj set in Dublin, since he relocated back down west.
