Mario badescu products are great, not too expensive and they last forever. You can get them in Harvey Nichols (it's been ages since I bought them but I presume they still sell them there)
Have a look at their website to see what products you would need.
http://www.mariobadescu.com/ and you can buy online from http://www.beautybay.com/skincare/mariobadescu/ if you like.

Or have you thought about having a facial?

Never used a facial sauna but the reviews for this one are great, although most of the people using it are using it for sinus relief rather than facials

actually now that i've read the reviews I might buy one for myself because I get bad sinus pain but also the reviews from people who used it for skincare say it's fab!!

Hey. I bought one of those facial saunas, while it is good, I don't think it compares in any way to a good facial. Depending on where you are in the country, you should be able to find a place that does male facials. I go to a beauticians run by Hungarians (they are cheaper than any of my local Irish ones) every 6 weeks, and honestly, you would notice a difference straight away. Rather than going for a facial that is just about layering on creams and the likes, you would really want to find somewhere a little more thorough. Where are you Op?

tbh im not too interested in getting a facial ,i just thought the sauna might be handy to use a couple of times a week at home.im more interested in starting a daily routine that will improve my skin, starting with buying a few products that people here can recommend or use regularly.there is so much info and a huge amount of different products on sale im not sure where to start or what I need.

You really should give the mario badesu a go,
I would suggest the glycolic foaming cleanser,
    http://www.beautybay.com/skincare/mariobadescu/glycolicfoamingcleanser/
you would probably just need to use it once a week and then maybe a second time on your problem areas if you needed it and it will leave your skin so smooth and even, it acts as an exfoliator and I would also suggest the silver powder which is great for black heads http://www.beautybay.com/skincare/mariobadescu/silverpowder/

The two of those will literally last you for years and as you won't have to use them very often you will be able to just get away with washing and moisturising most days.

I can't help with a male moisturiser sorry but I think with the above products and a moisturiser and a sauna you will have great skin!

Clarins, Clinique and Dermalogica have good mens skincare ranges. Dermalogica in particular caters for different types of skin problems.

    Hi OP,

To get a decent regime going you need to figure out your skin type, sounds like its oily/combination to me.
Dermalogica do some pretty fantastic products to tackle skin problems and I would recommend getting something like Pre Cleanse (this is a really nice smelling oil cleanser which is great on oily skin, you pop a bit onto dry hands, smooth over your face and then wet your hands and rub it in, it will go a milky colour then just rinse) Precleanse tackles excess oil production.
Then I would go for Special Cleansing gel, this is a soap free wash off cleanser, a bit of Multi Active toner and then Active Moist moisturiser.

Cleansing your skin properly twice a day with good products targeted specifically for your skin type and condition will see results.
Facial Saunas are ok and can help loosen up the blackheads for extraction, if you are going to try and get them out yourself get advice on how you do it as you must always handle skin gently. A hot face cloth (not too hot!!) held over the area can have same effect really as well. By properly cleansing the skin will help prevent them re-appearing.

You dont need to be using anything too harsh as an exfoliator, Dermalogica do one called Daily Microfoliant, start off with this every week then drop it back to about fortnightly. Exfoliators without the gritty bits are better for your skin as they are much more gentle and actually get deeper into getting rid of the dead skin.
I have the same skin type as you and found the above products to work best for me.
As noted before, Clinique has some good products but one thing I dislike about them is the amount of alcohol used in their stuff- alcohol in toners etc only makes oily skin even worse.

sorry just re-read your original post, when you say the area around your nostrils is red- can you elaborate? is it red from spots or is it broken veins...if its broken veins this is showing that you are sensitive in this area (as opposed to sensitised- amount of people who dont get this!!)
Sensitivity in any area is a contraindication to steaming so be careful- use of steamers etc in untrained hands can make the problem worse.

Dont forget the sunscreen as well- minimum factor 30 all year round (broad spectrum protection) and up it to factor 50 in summer months...sun is the cause of 80% of skins ageing...look after that skin now and it will be so worth it in years to come!

Dermologica do a gift set type effort with a selection of their products in travel sizes. The little gift set is about 30 euro, it might be an idea to buy that first to try out the products before buying full size bottles as they are expensive and might not agree with your skin.
