    Hey,

Planning my RTW trip at moment...going solo :( but thats ok:)

I want to spend as much time in North America as possible... so looking to fly to Chicago do bit on Eastside states then try and get some work in Canada (to help with spending money and get sense of working overseas) then travelling to LA overland.

Want to hit NZ in Dec then onto Oz for few months before heading to Singapore and flying home from Bangkok.

So basically looking for any advise or tips...anything glaringly stupid in the plan etc?

I love States so want to do bit travel around ...I know cost of living will be expensive there so hopefully if I could get work in Canada for a few months it would set me up.

    Cheers in advance...

I would be inclined to spend as little time as possible if any at all in North America. Focus on the Southern continent and don't worry about work and visas. Fraction of the cost and alot more suited to the independant traveller. Cost of flights via the North and South American continent would also be minimal. Save to say you could spend 1/3 to 1/4 of what you would spend in North America

Thanks for feedback ...I was told that I couldnt really do both South and North on the one RTW ticket. I know visas and cost is a pain but I ahve always wanted to travel the States a bit. Was hoping to get few months work in Canada to supplement extra expense in North Amer.

Would love to see South America too but I kind of thought that would be more accessible to me in future for a trip.

Are you getting a working holiday visa for Canada? What type of work would you be looking for?
It will take a minimum of a few weeks to find work in each place you visit in Canada and casual work outside of bars/restaurants wont pay much. They will probably just about cover your expenses.
Also Canada is more expensive than the States so keep that in mind too.

    Hey Mac123,

Ye im looking at just some casual work for few months here and there...maybe OZ and Canada.
Im thinking now that hitting North Amer on way back could be best bet as could save some money in Oz and not blow all my cash in first few weeks in States.

Thinking SE asia , then Oz, NZ and then South America before spending last few weeks in USA/Canada. Would work out better in timings as wouldnt be hitting States when all the j1s are there in Summer

    Hey,

Can anyone advise some stops in South East Asia. planning on about 10 weeks here...Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Singapore...would trip to Japan be viable/worth it..or would it eat up my money and time?

Would love to hear any other / maybe not as publicised parts to visit.

    Also any tips on Fiji?

    Cheers
