9 year rule. I don't think the letter has reached many Taxi drivers who are WAY over the 9 years.

Still if the rule wasnt in i'd most probably be driving something like this or a S320.

Im sure the owner will have more taste than to buy a 03 almera. If he/she has been happy to put fuel in that as a taxi, Im sure they will either go for something the same only alitte newer or else a reatively new diesel.
The 9 year rule is a good start. Should be a 5 year rule IMO.

You had long enough to buy a large engined Lexus VB before this rule came but you still stuck to the diesel carinas.

They should have put some kind of exemption for luxury cars, perhaps if they were over €30k new they could be exempt until they hit 15 years of age, original value could be determined by the VRT calculator.

Lots of nice stuff that is young enough to meet the rules still out there for 3 to 4k if you were that way inclined

Can't you apply for a Chauffeurs license and get away with 9+ y/o cars?

Yea, if i apply for a limo licence, i'd be a limo driver and not a taxi driver. ;)

I'll hand it to you, that is bloody gorgeous.

VB, seeing as you've already bought that Avensis, would it not make financial sense to run it into the ground over the next two years and trade up to something nicer then?

There's a difference between asking prices and selling prices though. Any executive car with a big six cylinder petrol engine is nearly sale proof in this country.

I'd say that's more realistically priced than anything, but the BBS's are fantastic looking.

i think its no harm to get a lot of the crocks off the road. when i use a taxi i dont want to be going round in some 15 year old toyota carina that has been to the moon and back with funny smells in it and no comfort. I want something newish, comfortable and spacious. Anyway when im getting a taxi out I would wait for a few people to take the first few cars until i get to one that I like. btw i try to avoid avensis if possible. normally like something french or german if possible

TBH any time I go to Dublin and get a Taxi I normally have a gallon of porter on me so I am glad of a Taxi no matter what it is..

I reckon a ban on taxi drivers wearing tracksuits would have been better than the 9 year car rule, loads of them look like they're out shop lifting for the evening :pac:

Couldn't give a flying fcuk what the driver is wearing as long as the car is clean and he drives in a safe efficient manner tbh.

I rarely get taxis so I'm not really bothered if they drive Carina IIs or 11 reg Mercs but groups of track suit clad, overweight scum bag looking type folk smoking in groups of 8s at taxi ranks does nothing for the image.

Never mind the nine year rule - can someone explain to me how a taxi driver, doing nothing but mileage would drive a petrol car?

Probably gonna be replaced with a 2003 Almera. Shame.

Why wasn't that an 01 Almera taxi if that's what you suggest it is going to be changed to?
