Is it time for a 'None of the Above' on the Ballot Paper

Given that most of the Country know that they are not wanting FF or there Coalition supporters back in Goverment, and that the alternative choice is very limited, should it be time to put a 'None of the Above' or 'Re-open Nominations (RON)' on the ballot paper.

The voting in the DIT Students' Union elections is carried out using PR-STV and there is the 'RON' option there. I understand that these elections are effictively one-seater constituencies, but the idea is a good one....dont you think?

It would involve some re-drawing of the election system here, all constituencies would need to become one-seaters, which would easily facilitate a RON option on the ballot paper.

That's an excellent idea there Mr Brewster!

Excellent idea and "None of the above" would possibly be elected on the first count but then you are still left with the other candidates for the remaining seats.
It would just mean that the number in the Dail would be reduced by the number of "Nine of the above " candidates that are elected.

That would only happen if we kept the multi-seat constituencies we have at the moment. If it is a one-seater constituency then you don't have that problem.

What could happen is that if 'None of the Above' tops the poll then there is in effect a By-Election in that particular constituency in lets say 4 weeks. One downfall I could see to this is that if 'None of the Above' tops the poll after the 2nd and 3rd elections then there may be an air of Voter-apathy among the electorate, but I defo think that if we are going to move to One-seat Constituencies then this is something we seriously need to look at.
