    What speed did Mr Bolt get to on one of his 200m jogs in miles per hour?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 317 ✭✭bo-sco

    Well roughly speaking, a 20 second 200 would be 600m a minute, which is 36km/h. He is running quicker than that.

    Read somewhere that Bolt's top speed was near 48kph, close to 30mph

    200m in 19.19 seconds
    *5
    =1k in 95.95s
    *1.609344 (1 mile = 1.609344km)
    =1 mile in 154.416557s
    1mile/154.416557s
    =0.00647598949 miles in 1 second
    *3600 (the number of seconds in an hour)
    => 0.00647598949*3600
    =23.3135622 miles per hour
    =37.519541 km per hour

    Speed=distance/time <pedantic>

    We're both right

    I don't know.:o

    Lots of different speeds, Mr. Smartypants. So, to answer robinph's question, "Usain Bolt got to a speed of 10 miles per hour on one of his 200m jogs in miles per hour". (Other answers are also acceptable)

    Well robinph asks what speed did Mr Bolt get to, which is a specific question but difficult to answer. A bit of googling found this:
    http://videosportsanalysis.blogspot.com/2009/08/analyzing-usain-bolts-1919-second-200m.html
    Bolt's maximum velocity during the 200 meter race occurs somewhere between the 50 and 100 meter mark. His average velocity over this 50m part of the race is 11.57 m/s (25.88 mph). In comparison his 100m maximum velocity was 12.27 m/s (27.45 mph).

    Hmm, I thought the 200m was faster top speed than the 100m. Good that there are other people out there to decode Google for me. :)
