Car Vandalised : What can I do ?

:(I got up this morning and went to the car. Back windown smashed, drivers door given a good kicking . bonnet covered in foot prints and a few marks and a few dent on the roof. There was another 5 cars with windscreens smashed in the area.

Anyway I call the Glass people and they say it will be a few days to get the glass for window. They check my insurance and give me the bad news that my company ovly €250 worth of glass. The window will cost €960 in total to fix and fit.

Im just wondering is there anything I can do in relation to a claim. Im normally wouldnt bother with the other damage but paying out €700 is just a huge pain .

Im not happy ... is there anything I can do ?? I think there is an excess in general on my insurance of €200.

Iv reported incident to gardai. i do plan on pics from what is its worth.

Is there a point in even having a chat to insurance company

    any advice greatly appreciated .

    make/ model/ year/ extent of damage/ pictures?

is buying a second hand screen and getting it fitted yourself an option? this could weigh in an awful lot cheaper than the 700 difference you would have to pay and you get to keep your no claims.

900 odd euro for a screen?what are you driving the pope mobile?

its a saab 9-5 04 : not a hope for a second windscreen id say . its hard enough to find a new one tbh. There is a decent dent on drivers door from what seems like a good strong boot. There are a number of dints in bonnet and on roof but nothing that id get excited about but still noticable. Iv to get cam out to take pics .

from the sounds of the op, he's talking about his rear window, these can get expensive because oh the demister/ heating element in them, particularly from a main dealer which i where i expect this is coming from.

try some major breakers in ireland, id say you'd be surprised that they might have one. traynors breakers in the north would be a sure bet. but i cant recommend spending in another country :pac:

also, if the dents have no sharp creases/ wrinkles in them, try wetting them, and sticking a plunger to them and pulling them out.

its worked a treat for me countless times, they just pop right back into shape :D

its not a windscreen .... its back window and they are very expensive due to the heaters and extra brake light

Thats fine GusGus. I still think 900 is way off the mark tbf regardless of berake lights and heater element

I was down in Southside Spares in Dun Laoghaire last week and they had just taken in what looked like a perfect '98 9-5. It might be worth checking out.

Check again and see if your locks were tampered with ..... I understand an attempted robbery is a totally different claim compared to vandalism.;)

Do you really care that much about a brake light in the window you'd be willing to pay an extra 400+?

    Have a look at this...

Even if it cost €100 to have it couriered over, it's cheap and just swap the brake light over.

Haver you spoken to your insurance company yourself? If not then do that first. It's common for there to be a payout limit when you're not using the ins cos preferred supplier.

I don't know, but just ring a few screen fitting companies and see what they say.

    traynors??

are all insurance policies the same, I thought it was pretty standard for companies to replace windows... we are already paying some of the highest premiums in the galaxy.

Yes . I spoke to Insurance Company . Usual bluff .. they will pay a maximum of €213 ( dunno where they got that figure) on glass. Nothing they can do they say ..

But anyway I sourced a window in Condrons in Tullamore this afternoon so thanks to poster who recommended them .

Now all I need is to get it fitted . I wounder will Insurance cover this part even . Might be worth a shot .

Anyway any idea who to use and likely cost ...

Thanks for help so far ..

I had my car keyed all over ..... looking at a complete respray job and got a hint to ahem 'look at the locks' to see if it was an attempted break in. Sure enough, I had another look and found that 'somebody' had taken a screwdriver to the drivers door (very kindly not breaking the actual lock) and I claimed as an attempted break in with resulting damage to car from failure to get in ....... all good and car was resprayed as new with no cost as resprayer allowed for the policy excess.

Not saying it will work for everyone and you are probably too late at this stage.
