Will Arnett to join the Office (US)?

Not sure if this has been covered yet, but supposedly Ricky Gervais has said that he wants Will Arnett, of Arrested Development fame, to be Steve Carell's replacement on the Office. He might not be the new Office Manager, but it seems Gervais wants him as a regular.
Steve Carrell is leaving "The Office," but series creator Ricky Gervais has an idea to bring some new star power to the show.

Writing on his blog, Gervais talked about a recent meeting he had and the pitch he made.

"Had a little meeting with NBC about various things and recommended Will Arnett for a regular in 'The Office.' Thoughts? I think he's amazing," Gervais wrote.

He didn't mention whether Arnett should replace Carrell as "Office" boss, though one can imagine his famously idiotic characters -- made famous in "Arrested Development" and "Running Wilde" -- as a bumbling man in charge.

He also spoke about the travel show he's producing, "An Idiot Abroad," which stars his friend Karl Pilkington as, well, an idiot traveling abroad. Not shy to create some controversy, Gervais earlier blogged about his solution for Egypt.

"I am going to take over Egypt," he wrote. "I've always wanted a little dictatorship and I think this would be a good starting point. I wouldn't want to run it for long, Ideally I'd like something in Europe eventually, but you've got to start somewhere right?"

Somehow, that doesn't seem like the solution that Egyptians are going for. Especially after his Golden Globe performance.

What are your thoughts? If he does replace Michael Scott as manager, how would he be?

It's a good choice to be honest..

.. Will Arnett is one of my favourite comedic actors, and he needs some luck on the comedy front (other than scene-stealing appearances in '30 Rock', he hasn't been in a whole lot of worthwhile comedies).

It'll probably make me tune back in for a few episodes, as I gave up on 'The Office' earlier this season.

i think him joining could only be a good thing for the show as i've enjoyed anything i've seen him in before.

If he joins i might actually watch the rest of this season. I'd actually be more interested in his appearance than Will Ferrell's appearance in the show

I love Will Arnett, his 30 Rock appearances are genius, but I'm wary of anyone taking over from Carell. It would be really hard to create a new type of boss as the dynamic of the programme would be thrown, and to do that in the seventh season can be tough. However, I also don't want a Michael Scott ripoff. A tough role for whoever takes it.

Well Gob Bluth has experience in management, maybe the writers should have Arnett play Gob as the new manager of Dunder Miflin :D

Great news if you ask me,he was great in anything I see him in,he was a manager in "the increasingly poor decisions of todd margaret" and was good in that.If he plays the assh0le in this think he could wrap up the office nicely.

My backlog of unwatched "Office" episodes is second only to my backlog of "Big Love" of those shows I haven't consigned to Hell. Casting someone like Arnett might make me interested and even enthusiastic.

Arnett and Gervais confirmed for the season finale. It's very likely Arnett will replace Carell. Season 8 may have got more interesting!

Hmmm, undecided about this. I'm not mad into Arrested Development, have only seen the 1st season and he was quite good in it I'll give him that...but anything else I've seen him in (special mention to Blades of Glory) he has been painfully unfunny.

Glad to see Gervais is in the finale though :D

Arnett is absolutely fantastic.. but his choice of roles has been largely patchy.

You really need to see 'Arrested Development' in it's entirety to appreciate him, not to mention his show-stealing appearances on '30 Rock'.

I'd love if he actually played GOB in The Office. How hilarious would that place be?
