How do I go about changing to another course in the college its in a different department is it just a case of asking to be transfered or do I have to go through the CAO again ?

Check with the Head of Department.

Normally speaking entry to Year 1 of a course is via CAO. Entry to subsequent years (i.e. transferring course) is via the department itself as you will need the required credits, modules, etc.
