Just noticed that Collie and Cillian (possibly Meg) all posted on their Facebook with the status "Ice Ice Baby", and on the SU page last night they said the RAG Ball act was finalised. is it meant to hint that either Vanilla Ice or, more likely, Jedward are playing the Ball?

It's definitely Vanilla Ice. There'd be murder if it was Jedward and I'm pretty sure Meg, Cillian and Collie know that themselves and if they didn't, then there would have been plenty of people to tell them that.

Damn, I would have preferred jedwerd.

Vanilla Ice is confirmed. For the love of Jaysus do they want people going to the Ball at all? He'd want to be supported by Jay-Z, the remaining Beatles and have a keynote speech from Barack Obama for me to pay to see him!

I knew we should've booked Obama...

well i've been to almost even Ball that DCU have put on in the last 4 years and I have to say that RAG ball was terrible!!! While in general i think that the SU and the Ent crew have done a good job this year in terms of the last 4 jobs, and in their job in general, whoever organised last night should be ashamed of themselves

Was thinking of going to it myself, didn't in the end. What was bad about it?

Must say, I refused on principle to attend any of the organised events for RAG week on campus. The SU really let us down with what they put on.

Stick NUIG rag week, or Limerick rag week into youtube and you'll see what we are missing out on.

The SU should be ashamed of themselves. The succeeded in driving people away from DCU for RAG week and people went out in town instead. Personally, I went to town on Monday and Wednesday night, despite the fact that these should have being two great nights on campus.

Dunno how they thought they would get 1,800 to a ball with that fool playing.

If you didn't attend any events, how do you know if they were good or not? What's your opinion based on?

My opinion is based on feedback from numerious people, who attended both events. All had negative feedback of both events, with not even one person saying they enjoyed the event because of what was organised.

Anywone who said, it was a good night, also stated that this was because of them being highly drunk with their mates and not the performances of two poor comedians, or a one hit wonder from the 80's.

The fact that only 500 Rag ball tickets were sold on the Monday of the event goes to show what people thought of the organisation of the events.

Last years RAG ball was Sold out within 3/4 days.

Yeah, I was really surprised that it wasn't sold out. It seems there was very little interest in it this year, possibly due to the acts they booked.

They should have booked an act that the majority of people could enjoy. Last year they had mundy, coronas's, fight like apes etc throughout the week. You only had to go on to the su facebook page to see all the negativity the rag ball this year was getting but the su didnt respond. Vanilla Ice was a one hit wonder has been, what was the point in paying him to sing one song and run about on stage. I just don't understand the angle at which the su is coming from when they are planning these events. Even asking the student body for some ideas would have helped, what sounds good to 3 or 4 people may be the complete opposite for others.

I went because I was offered a ticket at a reduced price and thought it might be alright if I went with a few friends after quite a few drinks. No amount of alcohol could make Vanilla Ice good. It was by far the worst Ball I have attended in DCU. I only really went because I didn't go out on Monday and the Nubar had stopped letting people into Toxic Tuesday by the time I had arrived so I figured I'd at least have one "proper" night before I abandoned DCU's shoddy RAG week for Limerick. It was far from proper. Seriously, the RAG Ball is one of the biggest events in DCU and to have Vanilla Ice playing at it is a joke (as reflected in the attendance). The Christmas and Halloween Balls this academic year had much better turnouts. Hopefully the SU will now realise you can't have bad events and expect students to get locked and head anyway. Quinns must have been delighted with the SU for forcing so many students into their pub last Wednesday!

I agree with the majority of what you're saying, but they didn't even sell out the RAG ball last year.

I think scheduling it the night after Toxic Tuesday was a mistake. Last Tuesday felt like a ball in itself with the amount of students and security there, and the majority of people I talked to said they weren't bothering with the Rag Ball since they had better craic the previous night for free.

if they'd booked a few Irish bands or something that probably would have got a great turnout as well as probably being better than vanilla ice..

the only people who went to rag ball were people who were going because it was rag ball from what I've seen - I still haven't met one person who can name more than 1 or maybe 2 songs by Vanilla Ice - how many people were turned off the idea by it being Vanilla Ice like...

I would definitely have tried or made an effort to go if it was anyone who was half way decent - but Vanilla Ice  who's brainwave was that :confused:
