    Hey,

Can anyone recommend a way of getting to Edinburgh next saturday evening and back on the Monday morning (boat, other airports etc) without having to pay a fortune for getting a flight at this stage? If I were to go on a boat what would be the best route?

    Thanks

You can go by Dublin-Holyhead-Edinburgh. Sail and Rail with Irish Ferries or Stena Line is €40 each way. I recommend Irish Ferries, much nicer to me than Stena Line when I was coming back from the Ryder Cup last year, when I caught pneumonia.

    Cheaper if you go: http://www.stenaline.ie/ferry/rail-and-sail/holyhead/

Please see attached pdfs for train times when boat reaches Holyhead and if you want to get back in Dublin on Monday morning, I strongly advise you to get the 18.52 train to Holyhead, if you miss that one, and get 19.57, they will NOT allow you on the ferry as it departs within 20 minutes of the train arriving into Holyhead, and you will have to wait until 10a.m to get the next ferry from Holyhead to Dublin.

I hope this is helpful for you. I do a lot of Sail and Rail and I think it is the cheapest when booking at the last minute. I recommend that we book your ticket now when either Irish Ferries/Stena Line, to save you hassle during the week.

If by "next Saturday" you mean February 26th, you should get booking a ferry asap.

Ferries and trains are always packed for Rugby Internationals between Scotland and Ireland.

If you mean this Saturday (19th), the Belfast - Stranraer will also be packed due to the Old Firm game in Glasgow on Sunday.

Not sure where you are, but you can fly Derry to Prestwick for £70 return with Ryanair on the dates mentioned, both early morning flights.

Get the train to Edinburgh, changing in Glasgow and if you show your boarding pass you get half price travel, which means your return ticket is about £8.

Possibly as long as the ferry if you live any distance from Derry but could be more relaxing.

Also, translink/citylink do a bus/ferry service direct from Belfast, the times might be more suitable. http://www.citylinkonlinesales.co.uk/CitylinkWeb?redirect=JPlannerServlet&mn=1&op=6
