Developing ladder software

    Hi,
    I play tennis and I run an all year round tennis ladder competition.

    It works like this:
    There are 5 players in each division (there could be 20 divisions)
    Each month each player plays each player once
    The game is the first to 9

    At the end of the month combined scores are added.

    The top two from each group go up a division
    The bottom two go down
    One stays put.

    Does any know
    a) of software for something like this
    b) if not, how to go about developing it
    i) what language to use
    ii) could it be done just using excel

    we use it for gaming leagues, and its very easily customisable. lots of pre defined sports leagues already built in.

    Most software has already been written and more and more is open source.
    Sourceforge.net is always a good place to look for open source solutions and there is lots of club orientated projects... like http://tladmin.sourceforge.net/
    I have not used it but I am sure you can quickly determine if it does what you need or not.
