I cant believe the people of galway west are going to vote that gombeen back into the dail, that guy is dying to rejoin FF and will probably do so the day after the election so FF Will end up with at least 2 seats in galway west

Did I miss the election

He's got the most posters up of any candidate that I can see.

I admire his moral courage in only resigning the Government whip when the jig was well and truly up and he thought he could convert himself into one of those "Save De Hostpital" candidates we love so much in the provinces.

I drove through Claregalway there 2 weeks ago and missed the bypass his 2007 campaign promised, perhaps I missed the turnoff?

Slight hole in your argument. The man was never a member of FF, he was in the PD's.

certainly not a compliment to him, I wouldn't vote for him on that basis

I'd actually say he could be in trouble. IIRC he tends to get in near the bottom of the count and there are a lot more independents running who will take away from his vote.

Hopefully we won't be seeing him again. Worst TD ever IMO.

Some of this is probably just wishful thinking that no one in Galway West is going to be dumb enough to fall for the line that he's a true independent even though he supported the FF led government ever since he's been elected to the Dail....

He was born into a FF Family and he was a member of FF until he joined the pds at 21 years of age. When he joined the pds his father said to him i had 9 sons and 1 bastard.

I think he is in big trouble. Their has been so much mention of ff association with him .. thats like red rag to a bull for most of galway west and irish people. I think his time is over. So many posters of him up its unreal... he would win the poster campaign.

But who knows till polling day..

The advertiser said Galway west has never elected an independent since it was formed in the 30s*

(I don't have the paper to hand so am not certain)

I dont think an independent will be able to do much.. will any of them if they get in - but if FG get the majority IF they do whats the point.. independents will not be needed - and if they were needed to make up a government their is a hugh amount going all over the country...

If FG get a majority or if FG and LAB form a govt, Independents will join FF and SF on the opposition benches. In this case there is little or no chance of a FG candidate or a LAB candidate from Galway West being in line for a Minister or a Minister of State position.

If FG get close to an overall majority then a number of Independents will be required to make up the number for an overall majority. IF... one of those independents is from Galway West it strenghtens the chances of a few small crumbs falling from the national (or Mayo) plates.

Its encouraging to see Noel Grealish soldier on in promoting the construction of a bypass for Claregalway.

Excellent use of state funds considering that the Gort to Tuam (N17/N18) motorway is awaiting final contract signatures.

No parish pump politics for our Noel.........
