Hi everybody, thinking of booking flights with Etihad from Dublin to Bangkok, stopping over in Abu Dhabi. The only thing is the stopover is only 1hr 50mins. Is this long enough? Do I have to collect bags in Abu Dhabi and then check in again for second flight or do they transfer luggage for you? Wouldn't want to miss the second flight......any advice is much appreciated......

If it's the same airline there shouldn't be a problem - I don't think you'll have to reclaim your lugguage unless they tell you this specifically at the check-in desk - usually when you check-in and the person at the desk sees where you're going, they'll either ask you or tell you that the lugguage is going straight to the final destination. So you'll just have to get from one gate to another at the airport, so just under 2 hours should be plenty of time.

Connecting flights are simply just swapping planes. Even with different airliners, luggage is moved directly to the new flight.

If you're booking it all as one ticket you'll be fine. No need to collect/re-check bags, Etihad will transfer the luggage between flights with no issues :)

My bro has got this flight (both the morning and evening departures from Dublin) a few times , says it is the best connection to Thailand from Ireland. The connection time is fine as their schedules are designed to meet outbound flights to the east.

Am in Bangkok myself at the moment and flew from Heathrow via Abu Dhabi to Bangkok. My bags were checked through in Heathrow straight to Bangkok and were there when I arrived safe and sound.

I went from the London plane to the Bangkok bound gate in less than half an hour and you do not clear immigration and thus do not get a UAE passport stamp, you do however have to clear security between the planes but it is a special security area for the transferring passengers and is not too busy. Etihad are great and offer a brilliant service at excellent prices.

took this flight myself last year, no probs, checked in the whole way from dublin, just a matter of changing planes. Was delayed going out from Dublin, but they held all planes in Abu Dhabi for all the connecting people which was first class.
