Ok, so I am new to the city and what it has to offer in the way of mountain biking.. I have to been to Ballinastoe but am looking for something a bit closer, such as the Dublin Mtns..
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I heard Lamb Doyles Pub is where folk meet, but can't find any maps...
Gratefull for any help for a fellow mountain biker...

    Sweet as..

They are currently constructing an 8KM trail in Ticknock forest it was originally due to be finished around Christmas but the snow and poor weather delayed progress. The last bulleting from the Mountain partnership said it should be ready in mid February but there is nothing about it on Coillte Outdoors site about it being open.

All the trails are unofficial and are shared with walkers (if you know what I mean) unlike Ballinastoe which is purpose built and soon to be complete Ticknock will be the same. If you are looking for locations near Dublin there is Carrickgologan wood, Carrickmines area (small forest with some tracks) there is also a forest on the left hand side just after the Glenview hotel on the N11 not sure of the name.

The meca of course is Ballyhoura in Co. Limerick well worth a visit if not already but you will need a day and the weekends are very busy especially in reasonable weather.

Hope this helps have fun see you out there!

You should hook up with a club so you can get to know the trails, Ticknock is covered in trails which can be easy enough to find..

Sweet as, that's for the info.
I was just checking out the google maps in that area that Seamus gave the link for. Seems to be heaps of tracks, not sure if they are private though.. Will head there tomorrow and park at Lamb Doyles.
I will be watch out for walkers, always good to giveway and keep them on-side.

If they are still working on the trails, probably best to keep off for sure. Coming from living in NZ I have heard good things about the trails here.

    Awesome, live free and ride!!!!!

NZ damn i dont know if Ireland would even begin to compare :( you should try an hook up with a club like epicmtb or madmtb

Well Ireland can only get better.. The more that get behind trail building and pushing for new trails the better..

In NZ there isn't as big an emphases on clubs or licences to ride, it's free for all. The trails are well kept and everyone plays their part. It's all good though..

    :):)

anyway on topic :D id second Derekson in that you should try Ballyhoura in Co. Limerick its one the best mtb resources in ireland.
NZ has the right idea tbh but the good thing about clubs is that the members teach you all the trails etc. you wouldn't find on your own

True, clubs do have their advantages.. I'll check them out for sure. Wanna do some races as well so it will be good.

Ballyhoura eh.. Did see it a few years a go, but it wasn't finished so be good to have a blast there now. About time Ireland was on the map for MTB.

Single Speed championship this year as well, plus I hope they run the Celtic Extreme again.. Looked like a good event..

    Celticxtreme never happened!!

Looks like you are right, it never happened due to lack of entries.. It's events like this that put Ireland on the map and people coming to bolster the industry. This is great place that could and should grow like Wales, Scotland, Canada etc...
I guess it needs more support in the future. Races like this happen all over the world, as do 12/24 hour events.
I hope events like this take off in future.. Bummer eh.. :(

Yeah sweet as.. Seen that alright so gonna give it a blast..
Managed to get up to ticknock after getting lost at Lamb Doyles.. Found some downhill track that was not really what I expected..
So headed to the carpark at Ticknock, seen some other bikers and asked where the good stuff was hiding. After some piss farting about and sludging my way along some swamped fireroad, I came out on the purpose built track there.. Sweet. Man that rocks. There was a few others there so assumed it was good to go!! Ek...
anyway, had a blast. Did a few laps and headed back to the carpark for the Tip Top icecream.. Bugger.

Those are awesome trails. Different than Ballinastoe, bit faster and not as rootie.
Looking forward to hitting Ballyhoura now, next weekend for sure.
Will take the GroPro cam next time and post some vid's...
Maybe get some fush & chups on the way home... ;)

throw up some videos when you can as im bored out of my brain waiting for bike parts :D is there anything worse than having an unusable bike

Yes! Having a usable bike and a broken body :D

Karlati - if you're serious about getting into mountainbiking in Ireland you really need to join a club - you'll spend your life "faffing around" looking for trails otherwise! The vast majority of trails in the Dublin/Wicklow are unofficial and people will not post information on these on a public forum. I would suggest either MAD or EPIC or if you're out their direction IMBRC.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2dlZ23mv1A&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL - Wellington NZ... Awesome trails.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46Jos_JJC9k&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL - Wild Wellington 12 hr relay.. Killer race..

The camera is great, just got the new HD version last year in Whistler at Crankworks.. Pity I wiped out before getting more footage..
