Hi, I just received a letter to say my JSB is finishing and i need to apply for JSA. They want bank statements and i'm worried as i have been getting some help from my mum, lodging 100 or so a week into my acccount. Is this relevant for JSB or JSA or both? is it counted as income? i call it survival but they probably don't see it that way..
thanks for any help on this:)

thanks for the super quick reply!!
as i am not yet on the JSA i can easily stop her sending any more, so thats ok, but i'm wondering are they going to trawl back and give me a hard time about getting it while i have been on JSB?? they are looking for a few months statements and while i know the JSB is not means tested like the JSA i am wondering then what is the purpose of this..
    thanks again!

JSB is not means tested so the money you mother was topping you up with will not affect your JSB claim. It can be taken as means for JSA tbh there is not much point in getting her to stop these payments now as they will appear on the bank statements you will be providing just be honest and tell them that they were top ups from your mother.

The purpose of producing bank statements is to ascertain if you have capital in your account over €20,000 and also to ensure that you are not working for cash in hand and to see if there are any irregular deposits into your account. I presume that the deposits from your Mom will show her name against them as when I deposit to my daughters account they show my name against them. I'm sorry it wasnt the reply you wanted but it was an honest reply.

Are you under 25 because if you are your parents income will also be considered means.

On the contrary it was indeed the reply i wanted! i needed to know how this would affect my claim and i have an understanding now of the difference between JSA and JSB...I always prefer honesty and am happy to explain to them where the money is coming from, her a/c # does show partially on the statement.
had to laugh tho - i'm sure it does appear as though i must be young getting help from my mum but in fact i am in my forties, just having a hard time of it, I was made redundant and the income drop was too much to deal with since i had loans and debt etc. TBH I feel bad and am anxiious to get sorted and not be relying on her for money anymore. They definitely won't find anything like 20K in my account that's for sure!!
thanks again for your great and quick replies - they have definitely put my mind at easesmile.gif

sorry for presuming you were younger (im sorry I did laugh when you said you were in your forties... but I think I will still be helping out my children if they need help at that age and would be happy to do so..cant take it with me lol)... just tell them that it was to help you pay off your debts and show them your debts and more than likely (my opinion depends on sw inspector) they might write off these payments from your mom as I say this is a personal opinion.

Good idea, I can show all the creditors statements to the sw person.
Its not easy to accept help from a parent when you have worked all your life and raised kids with no help financially from anyone, but its humbling. I too help my adult kids when i can, you never stop being mum or dad i think!!
    Many thanks for your input!

The 100 euro you are receiving from your mum will most likely be assessed as a cash income in your means assessment. If the help is stopping, I would advise you to get a letter from your mum stating that she has been assisting you from whatever date to whenever but that assistance has stopped as and from whenever.
