how to clear an air lock in the hot system?

    i turned off the water before xmas cos of the cold snap and risk of freezing pipes and when i turned the water back on there is no water coming out of the hot taps. i did empty the boiler completely when i was turning off the water so i'm just wondering if it is an air lock and how will i go about fixing it? i presume its not safe to put the heating on yet either or maybe that might clear it out? thanks
