Alright folks just joined up there so this is my first post. Just seeing if there are many heading to see Ireland take on Scotland next weekend? I am currently studying in Newcastle upon Tyne and a few of us are heading up to Edinburgh for the Game.

Following on from a similar post, I thought the Irish were very quite during the French game so hoping to make up for it in Murrayfield

Heading over with a few team mates for a longish weekend.

    Cant wait for it.

Stay out of Espionage after the game on Sunday though. Copper Faced Jacks of Edinburgh...

Also, a little tip for yee, nowhere in Edinburgh serves food after 1am, so if you're locked and starving at 3am leaving a bar, then you'll stay locked and starving until you wake up the next morning!

Lets get behind our lads and let the 'Fields' be heard!!!!

It is going to be an unreal weekend and cheers for the heads up about the food stopping at 1am lol

Was at the match in 2009. Great craic to be had over there. Everywhere we went after that match was full of Irish people. If it wasn't on a Sunday I'd be going. And it's on a Sunday in 2013 as well :(

I'll be there, living here so will be a stroll to the game!

If you're planning on hitting Irish bars then try Malone's in Quartermile or Finnegans Wake off the Grassmarket and for the love of all that is holy avoid Espionage and Dropkick Murphys!

Still tickets available on scottishrugby.org (at least, there were tickets yesterday).

Third Six Nations trip to Edinburgh coming up, I'm heading over with my dad which probably limits my scope for going totally crazy, but from previous experience:
    1) Espionage and Three Sisters are great venues for late-night shenanigans with a big group.
    2) The bars around Murrayfield are not much good, better to head back to the city afterwards
    3) Avoid Biddy Mulligan's in Grassmarket, it's a dump and about as Irish as haggis.

Espionage is class ;) and there's a chipper on the Royal Mile near the South Bridge intersection that stays open late.

Last time I was in Espionage, they were showing classic cartoons like Transformers on the screen behind the bars!! Do they still do that?

Not sure, haven't been there in weeks only go when a big group of the lads come over, can't say I noticed it last time I was there. The changed the top floor too making it even smaller though.

3 Sisters is always good for a laugh.

If anyone is over and not going to the match, Teuchters on William Street (between Princes St and Haymarket) is a rugby pub.

    See you all there lads..
Driving up from Manchester on the Sunday morning and staying local.
Looking forward to the game and a few bevvies afterwards...:)

Looking forward to it. Heading with my other half and meeting some Glasgow based family in Edinburgh on Sunday. It's my favourite of the away trips, can't wait for the weekend (unless Kidney starts Box Kick at 9)!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 wardo75

it is going to be unreal lads! We will be in edinburgh at about 9am! gonna do a bit of site seeing first then hit the irish bars to hopefully see france hammer england!!!!! Can anyone recommend a good Irish bar? from what I hear there are a few.

    Come on IRELAND!

  • Posts: 0 Liv Plump Science

Malones is my favourite, about a 40 min walk from the stadium, near bristo square. Biddy mulligans and drop-kick murphys are nearby too, but don't think they're as good tbh. The Irish bars here aren't touristy, thank god, they're just full of Irish people all the time basically.
If you're here from 9am get an all day bus ticket for £3 from any bus driver, and use that to get around, the buses are great here, proper tracking at most stops to tell you how long you're waiting etc.

    Anyone heading over Thursday?

    cheers for the info Emmet.
You at uni there? Malones sounds good to me! Do they normally show the rugby and that?

We are stayin in a travel lodge about 3miles from the centre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 184 ✭✭Saviola

I'm heading over on friday and staying until tuesday. Thanks for the advice on the buses emmet, i'll definitely be picking one of those tickets up for travelling.

I'll probably end up in espionage at some stage too to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭OldRio

    6 in our party.
Setting off with my son who is 17 on Friday from Knock.
Fly to Leeds/Bradford. Meet 2 friends and drive to Middlesbrough.
Night out with another 2 friends and set off to Edinburgh on Saturday.
Meet lads who are studying there, out on Saturday.
    Match Sunday.
    Back Monday.
    Sleep till Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 743 ✭✭✭garbanzo

Not going this time but I'm a bit of a veteren at this stage having made the first trip back in January 1993. Is Big Daddy-o's still open on the Lothian Rd. Some crazy tales to tell from there but......that's another story !

Enjoy the match lads and lassies and rememember....the difference between a good trip and a great trip is........the RESULT :)

Yep pretty much follow what this Emmet says, if you're anyway around Haymarket just walk to the ground and soak up the atmospher probably about the same distance as Ballsbridge to Lansdowne.

    2 more days lads!
We will probably spend the majority of tomorrow in malones. By the sounds of things that is the place to be!

so if anyone is up for a bit of banter.......

Serious craic in Malones for the games so far. Free wifi to post frustration and glee on here off your phone too.
Buy a snapfax card at the till for £1, saves you a few pence off each drink (some drinks) and might be worthwhile if there's a few of you there for a few hours. Gives you buy one get one free on dinner too.

Off license hours same as Dublin, be warned to check beer %s, Carlsberg is usually 3.8 here, but there's plenty of 5%ers too! Spirit measures only 25ml too, so 3 here = 2 Irish measures

I like how informed you are emmet lol!!! Gonna see a few sights during the day and head there around lunch time! then a bit of clubbing hopefully saturday night.

This espionage sounds the spot :)

Heading over from Glasgow on Sunday morning and will be having a few pints before, during and after :) About 16 of us going, mix of Irish and Scots. If things don't go to plan my engagement to my Scottish fiancee might be off ;)

Lets make it an EPIC weekend!

    Come on Ireland!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S on another note Emmet, any idea where we would get some irish hats and that for the match? We where tryin to get a few leprechaun outfits lol

  • Posts: 0 Liv Plump Science

You'll grab em on the way to the match around Haymarket and further onwards towards the ground I reckon...

Not sure there's many other shops other than up at Quartermile that would even have novelty Scots gear

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

Emmet I'm a teeny bit more 'mature' and will be requiring a place with plenty of banter but also where I can sit down and the music isnt too loud....

Where would you suggest for a lad of similar age to the bull Hayes?

Stay in Malones for the night! Great Irish bar. Whereabouts are you staying? There's some brilliant late pubs around the Bristo Square / Grassmarket area

Ooh, quite the trek from my end of town. No idea what craic you'll find up there. Leith Walk has plenty of pubs though.
