Bus change

On the bus today the poster advertising the new (hiked up) bus fares had a hand written note saying "driver has to pay the difference!!" with the new fares circled. Do they really? I'm always throwing in a load of coppers to disguise the fact that my fare is 10 or 20 cents short!

Given that I ALWAYS have to ask for a change ticket, I hope they get stung when its low.

    I seriously doubt it though

The driver has to pay the difference?

    It's just not fare.

Prepaid tickets ftw! What's that - a queue to pay in cash? Think I'll just pass you all out!

And we hope if the bus crashes you're the only fatality.

    Pretty harsh!

In Amsterdam you buy a prepaid ticket, for one hour, 24 hours, 48 hours, 7 days etc. or a top-up card (which is cheaper).

When you get on the bus/tram/metro you swipe your card. When you get off you swipe your card again.

If you're on one of the timed tickets, (1 hour, 24 hours etc.), the time starts at the first swipe.

You can now hop from one transport system to the other, and travel as far as you want, until your time, or your top-up, runs out.

Dublin Transport. Why you no have integrated system?

Sure tis grand! If I die, simply loot my body and steal the prepaid ticket - no more faffing around with 15c change receipts that'll never be claimed!

There used to be a load of grafitti on buses telling customers to ring the bell, I always wondered if the drivers put it there

It's like a tractor, but with more seats.

Timbuk2 you are missing out on the joy of clearing out the debris from handbags, backpacks and coat pockets in order to present your scrunched up change tickets to Dublin Bus for the price of a pint and the bus journey home!

Quit talking about the developed world and let's get back to the subject of Ireland.

Does anyone actually do that tho? I can't be bothered making the trip up to OCS before 5pm in order to redeem the diff. I'd imagine they've knocked millions off their deficit with this deliberate little charge.

I have about a tenner in tickets here now and I'm gonna post it to the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation (https://www.jackandjill.ie/how-you-can-help/dublin-bus/) just to make sure somethings done with it.

I can see it now, just like the old arcade games of the 80's and 90's. The bus will stop and bus driver will get a message: "Please insert 50c to continue your journey?"

i regularly do that as well. no male bus driver is gonna stay at the stop and count even if he suspects it's under. i had a butch lesbien driver one time count it before giving me the ticket

They are working on an integrated system involving dublin bus, the luas, the lot! I don't know when it's being introduced though.
