Can I verify mileage without s/h

    Hi,
    Looking at buying people carrier - saw 06 sharan that seems to fit the bill but ther is no service history and seller(private) has disclosed that car was a hackney which motorcheck has verified.However there is no mileage history on the check..
    Only NCT cert is latest in Oct 2010 which appears to verify the current clock reading.
    Can I get access to the other NCT results(it appears was done in 08 & 09- because it was hackney?)
    Thing is car will do max 10k per annum so we don't really mind if mileage is highish - currently 154k.
    Just wondering if ye know of any other way of verifying mileage before we get a mechanic to check out car. This particular one seems to tick the boxes on price etc but we don't particularly want to buy something that could have done another 150k!

    Hi Esel,
    Yea did the motorcheck history but there is no readings under odometer contradiction and previous readings is unavailable...
    Was wondering any other way???

    You can have a look how worn out are the steering wheel, brake pedal and driver seat and compare them with other cars . Just look at few pictures of same model with different mileage.

    On some VW's you can used VCDS to scan the recorded mileage on the ECU rather then the clocks. I did this on a mk4 tdi golf showing around 120k miles, the ecu had recorded over 180k.

    But OP, I would be extremely wary of an ex taxi with no service history. Id definitely get a full mechanical inspection done. Most probably will be in decent nick as the majority of taxi drivers look after their vehicles well with it being their livelihood although the mileage isn't astronomical and begs the question as to why it's being changed already.
