In proportional representation stv if you no 2 vote has already been eliminated, do they take your third preference or is your vote invalid

Well it depends what happened to your first choice.

If your first choice is eliminated then your vote transfers to the next highest person on your card who is still in the running (i.e. who hasnt been already elected or eliminated).
