I used to love the 6 nations, but whether its over saturation of competitive rugby, sunday rugby, ireland winning it a couple of years ago, or most importantly World cup .. my interest has waned - much prefer Ireland to breed a squad , that could put together a decent run at WC .. people talked about a lack of atmosphere on sunday - but professionalism and the WC have changed rugby completely .... i have as much interest in a 6 nations win , as the triple crown , thing .... i'm sure the french and english must feal the same ... is winning the 6 nations such a big thing in a WC year

I don't understand why doing well in the Six Nations and doing well in the World Cup have to be mutually exclusive. Also, the Six Nations is big for Ireland, as it's a tournament that we have a chance of winning (though its unlikely now for this year).

Your opinion of the Six Nations might not be high, but in general the competition is still very well regarded by many Irish fans, and certainly by the Irish Team, many of whom would list the Grand Slam as one of their greatest achievements.

I think the 6N is awesome - I always have. Escpecially when I turned drinking age, it added another dimension to it!:)

Once we get to Christmas my buddies, and family, can't wait until it starts. There is something really special about the competition. In fact I am freaking out at the moment because I am struggling to find a bar in San Jose that will show the Scottish match. The jersey will be packed anyway in the hope of skulling pints and roaring at a TV set at 7am on a Sunday morning.

Some of my best days out have been traveling to a 6N match are watching it with a load of buddies in a pub, or two.

Considering that there was reported to be something in the region of 15,000 French fans in the Aviva last Sunday, apparently the French don't share your lack of enthusiasm for the tournament.

The Six Nations is also what basically funds Irish rugby at national, provincial, club and junior level with direct money, profit share, TV rights, sponsorships wishing to be associated with national side etc.

the irish national team at the moment is expected to beat italy, scotland, wales, and to a lesser extent england. i think this contributes to why people are some what apathetic about when ireland play, we're expected to win.

if england beat france and we beat scotland and wales by good scores (thus reducing englands better points difference), then the last game against england will remind people why the 6 nations is a good tournament.

the heineken cup has more knock out games (in last years cup there was leinster v toulouse, clermont, london irish all high drama knock out games) which contributes to the excitement of that competition.

well i don't make it a big thing if we are out of HCup to be honnest - i know there is still the TOP14 play off to look forward to. intensity is the same and rivalery is increased - more tension.
