    Hi Guys and Gals,

After all this doom and gloom, recession et al, many posters are slagging workplaces, putting companies down, sometimes having never worked for them, just heard about terrible working conditions from a friend of a friend etc. I'd like to open a new thread with input from like-minded people who have good things to say about their work/company/colleagues/bosses.

So I'll get the ball rolling by saying that I work for Aldi (the company, who along with Lidl probably get the most slagging on Boards), I've worked for Aldi for almost 4 years (started in March 2007), and I've risen quite well so far. I started as a trainee Assistant manager, and despite the criticisms that I've received, which I presume is something we all get while we're cutting our teeth in new employment, I'm happy.

Exactly 3 years after I started, I got promoted to trainee Store manager, thus receiving a non-contributory pension of 7% and VHI healthcare worth €1200 p.a.

My staff are happy, they get paid a great wage for an honest (albeit hard) days work, some of the more experienced staff earn over €14 per hour, no unions for them, but I can honestly say I've never had a situation where I thought the staff would have a reason to need one. I get 1 out of 2 weekends off,and I earn twice as much as I was on after 3 years working in previous retailer.

And before I get abuse from people who are unfortunately unemployed at present, I'm not using Boards as a way to pat myself on the back, I'm just genuinely interested in other peoples experiences in their workplace, so I decided to start by expressing my experiences in my workplace.

Feel free to post, as long as its fairly positive stuff!!

Well, Aldi are always employing, though the amount of jobs available are not as prevalent as a few years ago (when nobody wanted to work for Aldi!). If you were genuinely interested, drop in a CV to a nearby store, or apply online. I don't buy into the BS that companies are not hiring, they're always looking for an employee that will add something to their company

I work for a US multi-national (I would rather not say where, which may somewhat defeat the purpose of the thread!), who are transitioning a large part of their operations to one of the more cost effective countries.

Although at a corporate level, the staff who this affected were no more than a number, at a local level, I have to say that the senior management team have been pretty outstanding. They have enabled significant opportunities in other parts of the business, created short term assignments in growth areas to allow people to build up experience, and re-deployed as many people as possible.

I don't have numbers but I would hedge my bets and say that there are probably in the region of 100 people who are still working today (me included) as a result of their efforts.
