Has your laptop ever had an accident?

Curious poll is curious to see how often and when accidents occur, and how likely they are at what stage of your laptop's life.

I've only had 1 major accident where it fell off the couch onto a hardwood floor. Had to dish out for a new screen. Before and since I've always been fairly careful with the thing though there have been some near misses with coffee they don't count as they never did any harm or got into anything.

My working theory is if you can get it past your first year without an accident your chances of breaking it accidentally greatly diminish, but lets watch!

How many accidents has your laptop had and when? 23 votes

Im in the never boat. I have 3 laptops running at the mo, one that i take to college most days, and the other 2 are retired. I've never dropped one or broken them in anyway really. Unless taking apart an old one and breaking a clip or two around a screen bezel counts!

I swear to god Overheal, if i drop my laptop tomorrow im sending you the bill!

Never. I've seen too many laptop disasters with work to know to look after it.

hmmm... where do I start..... had a(an EX) girlfriend grab with both hands my 17inch macbook pro (approx €2500 worth) and slap it numerous times off the ground - EVERYTHING ruined.

several weeks after getting a replacement macbook (€1500ish) ... was taking photos at a boxing title fight (instead of being ringside the organisers put some of us up in the seating area) ... placed my laptop on the seat next to me .... whoosh ... seat flips up, laptop slips down, bounces on the metal structure under the seating.

I run down to find screen smashed, couple of dents...but it was still working ..... got quotations to get screen replaced of approx €800-1000 ...so I've been working away with a cracked screen for about 2years, planning an upgrade later in the year.

I have tonnes of other stories but cant be ar$ed typing them all out.

Dropped mine getting off a bus once, luckily it was in it's bag and the only dameage was that the screen holder snapped open but easily snapped back into place.

I did spill milk on it the other day though, meaning some buttons are no longer working but I had a tissue and a hair-dryer within reach so damage is minimal, the only important ones I know of that are gone are the left shift, all my eight-and-nine buttons, F4 and F-eight. Which is strange because there are working buttons in-between broken ones, and broken ones nowhere near where the spill was

Came home drunk one night and decided to have a glass of water which then ended pouring into my 1500 euro macbook pro which i then decided it would be a good idea to take the keys off and broke the bnm keys so by the end of the night i caused 600 worth of damage
