    Hey :)

I'm currently growing out my hair from not far off a number four all over to shoulder length. Straight it's now past my chin, but in it's natural curly form, it's not even ear length as it is so curly.

It's also at the stage where it's growing out as opposed to down as the weight is not there to pull it down.

I'm using pantene shampoo and conditioner for curly hair, along with John Frieda Mousse, and leave in conditioner in it every day and blow drying it on the lowest heat setting each morning for a couple of minutes.

The problem is that it tends to get really frizzy and looks very untidy.

I know that primarily I need to wait for it to grow, but has anyone any hints/tips on how to get it more manageable while it does grow?

    Thanks :)

I have curly hair and I cannot use pantene in my hair. I dries it out and it also frizzes it like mad

I would suggest a few things. Invest in a good shampoo, or try yes to carrots. I am using it a the moment and find it brill. But in saying that I only shampoo my hair maybe every 2-3 night and condition it every night.

Dont do too much handling your wet curls, try umberto giannini flirty curls scrunching jelly you can get in Boots and leave it to dry naturally or at least till its half dry and use defuser to finish it off and a little scrunching jelly to finish it off when dry.

I also find that tying up my hair does not help my curlys at all
    Good luck
I am always on the search for miracle curly hair products!:D

I love using Bed Head Foxy Curls :D I dont have curky hair but I do have frizzy and the shampoo and conditioner are brilliant. I also have the hair volumiser which is amazing.

I've got curly hair, and I find Panthene not great - it seems to make the frizz worse. Although I remember a hairdresser saying to me years ago that it has silicone (I think!), and to use it only occasionally when getting dressed up to go out as it gives your hair a good shine because of the silicone - but that this is damaging long term, and to use protein based products.

Current faves are Aveda Be Curly, and I'm trying out Kiehl's, quite liking their stuff so far. Both pricey though - but I find it is worth it in the end! Yes to Carrots was one of the very few cheaper ones that I found good.

I have the same problem with frizzy hair.. My hair is really curly and if I dont put any product in it just goes so frizzy and big!

The best way i have found to manage my hair is: wash with treseme (sorry for spelling) shampoo and conditioner, i towel dry it then ad pantene mousse.. Ive never used pantene shampoo and condition so I cant comment on what other users have said about it but I find the mousse to be brilliant.

i wash my hair every day and never used hair dryers or straighteners and my hair has never been in better condition!..

    Theres my two cents worth:)

    Thanks everyone :)

I've to wash it every day for work as it's so curly (am sick of hairdressers going "your hair is so curly") that in the morning it almost shapes into dreadlocks if I sleep on it!!

Funny about the pantene, it's only since I've used it the past couple of weeks that I've noticed my hair getting more frizzy if that makes sense.

Will try out the Bed Head range, and the Aveda range, am happy with the John Frieda stuff.

I need to dry it every day to some extent as I cannot stand going out to work with wet hair! What do you guys use to brush/comb after getting out of the shower? My hair tends to be tangled after showering, so I was thinking of getting an afro comb?

    Thanks again!

Yup Stheno invest in an afro comb or just detangle with your fingers in the shower while you're conditioning.
I know you wash it every morning, but it might be better to wash it at night instead, detangle it, put some serum and a bit of mousse in it and leave it to dry naturally, try not to rub it too much with the towel, instead squeeze the water out with your hands.
To get some volume in it after moussing it put some of these in your hair at the crown (while drying naturally)

on their side to give your roots some lift http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvvcC4NVyn8

then when nearly dry use a diffuser, and use some smoothing creme, John Fredia has one.
In the morning use a little serum and a blast of the cold air diffuser again to lift it.

Toni and Guy twist it curl balm is pretty much the only thing that works on my hair! Their shampoo and conditioner for curly hair is lovely too, and Boots have a 3 for €14 deal on atm (the three would usually add up to about €24 normally).

A warning on Treseme (spelling?) - friend of mine got her hair coloured, and has been using Treseme for the past few months, and the colour went orange! She went back to the hairdresser the next day, and they had to do a fix job, and they asked her what she had put in her hair since they saw her ... Treseme! Apparently it is well known for stripping the colour out of your hair - I knew this about Head and Shoulders, but not Treseme. I've been told by hairdressers that they use H&S to strip out the colour after a bad dye job, but I'd never heard that about Treseme - it was my go-to shampoo/conditioner when I was too broke or didn't have time to get Aveda/Kiehl's! Not any more!

    Hey Stheno and all

I have very curly hair that looks awful and frizzy if I don't mind it - it's bleached so very dry and damaged AND i tie it up a lot, so get all the little frizzes around me like a halo ha! But even with all the damage, I can get really nice spiral curls and it looks very healthy with little effort - for the following 2 reasons:

    1) A hairdresser friend of mine recommended Moroccan Oil, and then a few days later a different hairdresser friend also recommended it - figured they can't both be wrong! It's not cheap, but a bottle will last you a long time. Or try to get your hands on an alternative product with Argan Oil (that's the main ingredient), I picked up one in the USA and it's as good as the Moroccon Oil. It's just like a serum, but I think it has actually improved the condition of my hair since I started useing it. AND for the days I want to straighten it, it makes blow-drying faster and smoother, and my hair feels really soft but not frizzy. Some people love the smell, others hate it, so you might want to try to get a sample first.

    2) When you're washing your hair, rinse your conditioner out with your head upside down with COLD water (not fun, but if you have a detachable shower head you can step out of the shower and do it that way so you don't freeze!). Run your fingers through and detangle as you're rinsing the conditioner out. Put a dollop of serum or Moroccan Oil in your hands and gently scrunch into your hair, squeezing a good bit of the water out. Give your hair a good shake and throw your head right-side up. No towel and don't touch your hair let it air dry, and voila: frizz-free healthy looking curls. You mentioned you can't go out with a wet head - what I do if I'm in a rush is blow-dry it at a low speed on the coolest level, hair upside down again for volume at the roots (otherwise the curls get all heavy and I get that pyramid look with hair flat on top and sticking out on the bottom)

    Hope this helps!!

Can anyone tell me where to find the Bed Head range? I'm in Swords, and Boots don't have it. TKMaxx have the curly conditioner, but not the shampoo, they've a couple of different shampoos, one sulfide free and one thickening shampoo, but it's in two litre bottles!

no towel dry is def the way to go I also scrunch it with my fingers to wring out the bulk of the wet but go around the house with a towel on my shoulders til it dries.
i like the trevor sorbie products from boots.

I have long, curly hair, about five inches below my shoulders, so my hair can get "pulled" down with the weight. I am in love with the Umberto Giannani products, specifically the Glam Hair range. I'm using the mousse and salt spray at the moment and they're great. The mousse is good if you're going to dry your hair with a diffuser, and the salt spray if you're letting your hair air dry. I'm also using the "Backcomb in a Bottle", it gives fantastic volume.

I've curly hair too & I like John Frieda range for curly hair. I try to buy it when its on special offer in Boots or Tesco. I use the shampoo & conditioner then put the frizz-ease in my hair & either use the mousse or curl spray - all John Frieda products. I also try to give my hair an intensive conditioner once a week - use Boots hair mask (coconut & almond) less than €3 for the tub & I comb the conditioner through my hair. Hope that helps!

I have curly hair down to my boobs which is prone to extreme bushiness and frizz. After my years of searching for the best way/products to tame it, the best thing I have come across is using the CurlyGirl method. That means no sulphates (which nearly all regular shampoos have including pantene) and no silicones and that includes the morrican hair oil which is full of silicones. I use MOP C-curl shampoo, Jessie curl deep treatment and Jessiecurl rockin ringlets. You should do a bit of research on it and if nothing else is working try it out.

hi curly girls...curly hair is like a cult in my opinion!

i would recommend aveda 'be curly' curl enhancer...its full of flower and plant essences...non sticky, non crunchy and smells AMAZING!

today i went to the aveda counter in debenhams (henry st) and they were doing free consultations with samples of the shampoo, conditioner and a treatment for FREE....particularly amazing because aveda rarely give samples...also you get a €16 off voucher if you decide to purchase..the offer is on for another week so im spreadin the curly word :)

Hi Satcie, really interested in buying these products. Do you buy online or can you buy in shops? How much for all three? ish!?

    Thanks
