Insurance question?

In the apartment block where I live, there are a couple of guys who are using the parking spacesto "fix" up cars to sell (that's just a by the way and not the point of this thread)

Anyway one of the cars was parked out in the car park and my neighbour accidentally bumped into it causing a little bit of damage to the wing. Anyhow the fella who is fixing the cars has asked him for €900 to fix the wing. This car is UK registered as are most of them, they don't have any tax or insurance displayed on them...

My question is can my neighbour who is fully comp go tell the guy to sing for €900 as he won't/can't go through insurance as the owner doesn't have any?

He is still entitled to have his car repaired and entitled to make a claim with your neighbours insurer. He wasn't driving the car at the time anyway...

I kinda thought that, but just wondered if the car is uninsured what right does he have to have it parked on a public road etc, and wondered would the insurance co only deal with another insurance co?

Actually another question, what if the shoe was on the other foot? What if he had crashed into my neighbour with his uninsured car and refused to pay? Where would you go from there?

Sorry two questions on one topic... but was just thinking about that too..

We all pay towards these situations in our premiums:mad:. Just parted with over 1k for mine today.

You would make a claim with the MIBI in the above case

How do you know he is uninsured?

Also the apartment block is almost certainly private property so the cars don't have to be insured while parked there.

He can try - I would. First, get your camera phone out and take loads of pic's of the carry-on.
Tell him you want to go through the insurance, and so need to report the accident to the Garda, and need his insurance details. And the management company for the apartments would like his, as well.......

Let's see what response that elicit's........

If you have done some damage it's only fair you should fix it- but only on a fair basis. He's just pulling the salty water tbh.........

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I know he's uninsured cos he told my neighbour so, also there are at least 12 vehicles in the parking area all uk registered which are showing out of date UK mot and no Irish tax or insurance discs.

The apartment block is not private road, as part of our management co we sold the road to fingal to allow them to take over the running of street lamps etc (I'm owner occupier so know this for sure as we had a vote about it a couple of years ago)

It's not my fight to fight, but as I'm a nosey person I'm interested in how this will play out, my neighbour who bashed his car is pretty adamant that he isn't paying the €900, i kinda agree with him as it's only a really minor scratch, he offered to buff it up for him but the car owner wasn't interested in allowing him..

sorry not SOLD to fingal but allowed them to take over the management of the road as they were building a public facility which would require use of the road to access the facility....

12 uk reg vehicles:eek:. Then, VRT evasion is a bigger issue here. If the gardai were mentioned, he'd probably say forget all about it.

I'm sure customs would love to get their hands on these !!!
12 uk reg'd cars, this guy should have a sales yard for himself

seriously there are 3 van's 4 small cars 4 bmw/mercedes cars and one that the guy uses himself to get around not sure what type of car that is.

Must say to my neighbour tomorrow if I see him he should suggest going to the gardai...

It is a pain in the ass with all the "unused" cars with "for sale" on them parked in spots as there's not really enough spaces to go around as it is, which is partly why my neighbour banged the car in the first instance as other cars are parking wherever they can just to park at their house.

Tell your neighbour to take photos of all the uk reg'd cars and present them to the customs, he wont be long changing his mind about the damage :)
