Which foundation is best?

Looking for some advice, I want to get a new foundation. Have really gone off the one I have been using just feels like it doesn't give me the coverage I want.

I'm torn between what brand...was thinking Bobbi Brown but just read that they can be quite greasy and wipes off very easily. I have good skin, not too dry/oily and I'm pale could anybody recommend a few different options?

I wanna go in to BTs or CLerys...where would people recommend and also where would I get an appointment with one of the girls?

I have used the bobbi brown stick foundation previously & I really recommend it.
It gives great coverage & I am very pale.

Is that very expensive? I love to try different foundations but I hate spending a fortune and then it's no good.

Think I'll try and get a booking in Bobbi Brown on Sat, haven't a clue if its at all possible but I'm hoping! Does anyone know how long you would have to wait for a booking?

You should ask in the chemist, matching your skin tone is key to the foundation looking natural.

I use Double Wear and I have to say its brilliant, lasts all day long.
    Its about €30.

Love Dior Nude. Lasts all day and lovely coverage. If you just ask at the counters in BT they should all be able to do a foundation match for you. The earlier you get in there the better

Depends on the coverage you're looking for really. I wear Estee Lauder DoubleWear but it's pretty heavy; I used to be in love with it but I'm finding it too much lately. My skin is a little dry though so maybe you might find it a bit more comfortable to wear.

I find Revlon Colorstay in the Normal/Dry formulation to be more comfortable to wear; they have pretty good pale shades too so no worries of finding everything too orange! Revlon is almost exactly half the cost of DoubleWear and it wears fairly similarly; DoubleWear has a much better range of shades and is a bit easier to apply (provided you wear a good application of moisturiser underneath) but Colorstay is a great 'cheap' (is E17.50 that cheap??) foundation.

I like Clinique foundations too, used to wear Superfit when I was younger and really liked it, can't remember why I changed now! The shades that were pale enough for me were a bit yellow if I remember correctly, but a really nice foundation to wear.

I use Lasting Performance by Max Factor, it's long lasting and gives great coverage to my rosy red rosacea cheeks.

I like Revlon Colorstay too. In the dry/normal formula. The oily skin version was way too sticky for me. I've been using Colorstay for about a year now and love it. I hated Doublewear, I found it way too thick but it seems to have a lot of fans on here.

l love Doublewear but there is a lighter version of it too, for the day time if you find it a bit heavy!

I hated that too. It just doesn't suit me I guess.

By the way OP there's lots of threads on here about foundations if you want to do a search you might find more advice on what to get :)

Highly recommend Estee Lauder Double Wear. I also have pretty good skin (not oily or dry), am very pale but have a little redness to my cheeks etc which is why I want full coverage. Its quite expensive (€34 in boots and debenhams) but I really feel its worth the money and a little goes a long way. The 3 lightest shades are 1c1 shell, 1n1 ecru and 1w1 bone. As you might guess c= cool, n=neutral and w=warm. I wear 1c1 which is the lightest shade and has a slight pinky hue, but is by no means too pink. My sis wears 1n1 which is only very slightly darker but its a little orange against my skin since I'm quite pink, but perfect on her. Ignore the shades on Estee Lauders websites, they're pretty far off and show completely different colours on the US v UK site for the same shades. It does not oxidise on my skin so stays true to its colour. It lasts incredibly well and does not transfer.

I think the majority of people who do not like this foundation must be applying it wrong. I find you need to use a flat foundation brush with it (eg MAC 190). I shake the bottle and whats in the lid and neck will cover my whole face. Do not dot it around first as is drys too fast. You need to work on a small area at a time and literally place a small layer of the foundation down and stroke it gently downwards to blend out the edges. If you try to blend it up and down/back and forth/circle it or try to 'buff' the foundation in thats when it turns heavy and nasty and cakes and wont sit right. I do the nose first, then each cheek, chin, forehead and eyelids. If you need extra coverage anywhere, add another thin layer by gently patting a little down and patting out the edges. Its a strange foundation but absolutely brilliant if applied right and not heavy at all.

Many people say revlon colorstay is very comparable but I don't think so at all. I used the lightest colour in the normal/dry formula for a while before switching to DW. It was a bit dark on me and very pink. The formula might look similar to DW but it feels much heavier on as you need to use much more. It does not last very well and oxidises on my skin.

I've also tried the Double Wear light and to me its just not worth the money since I think its pretty basic and you can find similar foundations in cheaper brands.

Vichy Dermablend is supposed to be brilliant and very full coverage foundation but the lightest shade is too dark for me personally. I very recently tried Vichy Aera Teint Pure on a recommendation from Letzmakeup on youtube in the lightest colour Trés Clair Opal but while the colour looks perfect initially it turns orange very very quickly.

I've tried a couple of samples of Bobbi Brown liquid foundations in the past (not sure which ones right now) and thought they were nice but wasn't wowed by them. I personally don't like stick foundations so that would be a no no for me. I would definitely recommend popping into Boots and asking for a sample of the Double Wear to try for yourself.

What does it mean if foundation oxidises on your skin?? Just curious as I also use Revlon colorstay..
I think it's a case of each to their own..obv it depends on your skin type etc. I use the second lightest tone as it has less of a pink tone. While I'm quite pale (glow is not in my vocab let alone tan!), I found this one perfect. I apply it with a damp sponge rather than a brush and I feel it gives great coverage without piling it on (I get quite a few blemishes and red bits so I need good coverage).
I used to use clinique superbalanced in a creamy compact thing. Not sure if they're still making it. But I find the Revlon just as good if not better so don't know if I'd splash out on the more expensive ones again!

My favorite foundation of all time is Face Atelier but it's expensive enough.

Cheaper foundations I like are Rimmel, Bourjois and Avon

I never thought I'd say this but I actually agree with the above!

I used to love MUFE High Definition foundation along with their face and body liquid and I have to admit that I was a bit brand snobbish when it came to foundations and eyeshadows - (MAC and Inglot!) I didn't mind skimping on nail polish, mascara or lipgloss, but I also felt you had to spend more to get a decent foundation, anyways I'm rambling on now, never tried Avon til recently but they had a foundation swap offer on lately whereby you could trade your old or empty foundation for a new one for just E5.

I'll admit I was a bit dubious at first but I think I'm converted now! :D

I got mine online here; facebook.com/avongalwaycity

I'm not sure if they're still doing that offer now or not though, but for a fiver it's not a bad offer at all!

Btw, just curious, what sort of training do avon do in ireland?

I was similar to previous poster in that I thought high end stuff was automatically better. But having tried some Revlon and Rimmel things I was quite surprised. I'd still buy one or two staples if I came across them abroad and they were cheaper but I'm happy to have an alternative for now. Just wondering if the same applies for skincare...that's for another thread though!

    Hiya,
I just recently bought the estee Lauder double wear foundation and I find it very good aswell, I do find if I use a foundation primer it goes on much better.
It gives excellent coverage. I don't need to use any powder aswell as it has quite a matt finish. Might be a bit drying for someone with very dry skin. Great if your looking for a foundation that has full coverage.
    :)

I absolutely love Armani Lasting Silk. It's the best foundation I have ever used, it blended with my skin so well and it lasts so long. I couldn't get to Dublin the last time it ran out and I'm using Dior Nude at the minute. That's also good, but nothing can compare to the Armani one in my eyes :)
