Fine Gael Councillor's Election Poster on the M9

I drive to work up the M9 to Dublin and pass Fine Gael Councillor Martin Heydon's billboard election poster every morning 4 km north of the Athy junction. He is the only candidate who does this. I thought it is illegal to advertise on the sides of motorways for safety reasons, I know Kildare CC have clamped down on this advertising in the not so recent past.
I'm just wondering does anyone agree that it's a new low for politicians in terms of trying to get peoples vote, by distracting motorists driving at 120mph.

Ah - but speed limits mean nothing to this time travelling politician. Watch this and cringe :mad::mad:

If a billboard distracts you that much, then that motorist should nto be driving.

I haven't noticed it myself (I keep my eyes on the road :) ), but if its literally on the motorway verge then its illegal and the NRA will take action, however if its in a field overlooking the motorway then the same rules apply as per posters in town - can be there for election and must be removed 7 days afterwards.

If you really want to see road signs, drive in Kerry. Healy-raes everywhere, every junction, every main road. :) - I wish I put a bet on last week when Danny HR was 3/1 for a seat - he's now 1/10!!

Hilarious. Needs better special effects and a few explosions. Then it would better represent Fine Gael

A friend of mine who lives in Newbridge complained to one of the FF candidates there because her posters were clearly obscuring visibility of the traffic lights on the bridge. It took her over a week to take them away after repeat requests from my friend. TBH the councils are letting an awful of infractions slide by these so called candidates.

Should have gotten on to the roads section of the council directly as they remove hoardings posters etc that are causing obstructions. This happens pretty frequently and they generally act immediately

surely driving at 73km/hr over the legal motorway limit is far more dangerous than a few posters?

you'd be hard pushed to even notice anything at that speed

Actually if it's on private property it can stay there as long as he likes. It's public area posters that have to be down in 7 days.

OP: this is just like the trucks you see in fields beside motorways all around the country advertising some local business. Legal grey area but a planning issue rather than an roads issue.

No grey area there. Posters are not allowed obstruct traffic lights, view at junctions, road signs. The council should have removed it immediately but they are understaffed. Same as Labour putting up posters a day early all over the place - should have been 150 fine for each one but not necessarily possible.

However I will be taking photos of any posters up on Friday week and sending them to the council to take action. It's a handy fundraiser for them for posters up late.
