the new captains for the year get the season started by hopefully hammering a ball down the middle of the fairway and not knocking it down..:D:D. Most clubs will run a scramble or something in that nature after.

Its some amount of crap really. Just a reason for all the stuck up members who think they own the club to meet up and think there better than everyone else :D

Its usually a shotgun start too after the captains hit off

    Unkind & thoughtless statement!

Mickey; It's a fun day when members genuinely wish the Ladies & Gents Captains all the best for their year in office. The usually arrive in some novel means of transport or dress. Usually as halfprice mentioned a scramble over 9-holes with each group of four assigned a tee-box and a shotgun start as L.O.F.T added.

Ours is a 3-ball scramble.. can't remember if it's 9, 11 or 18 holes... with teams a good mixture of high, mid and low handicappers... and try to have one lady on each team... shotgun start... good fun format and you'll get to meet some members which is useful as you're new. If you like their company then get their number and you can join them again.

Lovely course. Played there for the first time in a society last year and thought the place was terriffic. Very fond memories of the society bus breaking down on the way to collect us and us all getting p!ssed in the bar while we waited. Its on the fixture list again this year, roll on.:)

it also involves the presentation of a dedicated car space to the male captain so he can comfortably drive into the club during his term of office
    hence the name.

Not too often you would see a bunch of "dirty bikers" (;)) being welcomed into a golf club car park.....
    Nice touch though!! :D
