We're 8 days out from the election and I have yet to have a canvasser of any description call to my door. I know I may not be home that much at the weekend but I am here every evening and I haven't even had a leaflet put in my letterbox to say they missed me. I am in a decent sized regional town. It's at the stage now that if anyone at all calls to the door, they will get a vote from me. I'm a believer in politicans engaging with the people and in them or at least canvassers going door to door to get in touch with the people. Has anyone else had this experience of having no canvassers?

I've had publicity post from all parties but no canvasers.

Fianna Fail came to my door but tried hiding the fact they were from that party. They left when I told them they didn't have a chance of getting my vote.

Sinn Fein rang my door bell, threw a leaflet at me and nearly ran down my driveway. I didn't get to say a word.

Fianna Gael have put plenty through my letterbox but have yet to ring the door bell.

Lots of leaflets but the only person knocking on my door was the TV license inspector

I'd prefer to meet the canvassers then him.
But they seem to be ignoring me

Two of the TDs in my area (different parties) do all their canvassing in the same pub every night.

    Who to vote for ?

Whoever buys me the most gargle.

We had no one call until last night, sinn fein. If they are the only ones who do call before the election I may well vote for them.

    What?

Someone who dislikes the fact that they did not receive junk mail!

    Well I never...

Dublin Central; Paschal Donohoe FG and Joe Costello Labour have called, Maureen O Sullivan's canvassers but not her, she's from 'the other side' of the constituency, leaflets from SF and Christy Burke, large amounts of FF bumph but no knock.
I'm expecting a blitz over the next few days though.

Only 1 canvasser to my door and that was nearly 2 weeks ago.

Thought I would have got one the other day as they were in the estate but never knocked.

I think the likes of FG and Labour feel they don't need to work hard to get elected due to FF mess which I think may surprise a few candidates

We've only had FF call round. Knew well who they were for, they weren't the politicians themselves, just the party dopes doing the dirty work. Never ever had an actual real live politician at my door, it's only ever the little lemmings that call...

Got all the parties stuff in the post with name and address on it, first one in was Labour, then an independent, then SF, then FG and today FF.

See only FF posters in local area... One had the SS officer lookalike M Martin and it blew away in the big winds. There is now just one with the 3 amigos on it... lol

No FF yet, no SF or Independent either. Had the local Labour TD call and canvassers for the local FG TD. Not too surprised by the lack of SF canvassers, the SF stronghold ends two streets over and where I am wouldn't be very fertile ground for them. They're far better off making sure they canvass other areas heavily. May see them, but it's mixed. FF don't have a particularly local candidate near me given Martin is canvassing around the country and the other FF candidate is way out.

Labour called here day before yesterday,Sinn Fein today.
methinks FG&FF know were i live too well!
not even a leaflet from FF or FG so far!
must be the aware of the peasants notice on the gate!:pac:

Candidates who dont canvass dont deserve your vote. If they are afraid to face the people there is obviously a reason for this.

I've got a good one for ye and its the god honest truth lads.

I got back home about 3 o'clock yesterday and was in the front room. I looked out the window and who did I see then no other than Micheal Martin's running mate, Michael McGrath TD, outside in the driveway (its a terrace of 7 houses sharing the drive)

Anyway, we made eye contact, him looking in at me, me looking out at him.

Next thing, I hear the squeak of the letterbox. I go to the hall to retrieve the "sorry, I missed you" flyer that his lackie just pushed through the door!

I go straight back to the window, leaflet in hand, and see him turn away straight out the drive again, with the two lackies in tow.

    I couldn't believe it...what a shameless coward!!! :D

I must admit there are 2 types of FF canvassers at the moment, those with no conscience or those with no sense lol

    No canvassers my way either!!

Hasn't been a sign of any canvassers here either. I spoke to a few people who live in an estate further down the road and no visits there either!! Loads of junk mail via An Post; not sure I will bother voting at all.

You seem to have been eager to get talking, could you not have opened your door regardless of whether or not he knocked on your door?

    Why should I?

He obviously didn't want to talk to me... :(

Local FG candidate called to my door the first night of the campaign. A bit too parish pump focussed for me, but fair dues.

Otherwise, one "independent" FF refugee called, and the official FF and Sinn Fein campaigns called, but not the candidates.

But you wanted to talk to him?,All you had to do was open the door & he would have spared a few minutes to talk.

    Ughh, they're the worst ones...

They don't even have the decency to own up to their own political background.

Total lack of respect shown for the electorate. Ye're fooling noone ye cretins...:mad:

Yea but I didnt want to talk to him.

He should have come up to the door and knock once he saw me anyway...but he didn't. No loss there for me.

I'm in Dublin South. Have not seen 1 canvasser call to the doors here. Got the usual bumpff thru the post from FG, FF, Sinn Fein, Green and Labour but not one person. I know it is a big constituency but cannot believe not one has called. Would not mind asking the likes of FG (as they will be in power) some questions on my mind. F Fianna Fail, I'd tell them to go F themselves if they came near us.

I've nothing but Canvasers in my area, so many this evening that I've lost count. The next one that rings my doorbell is going to leave with one of my crutches ATTACHED!! :D

I live in an estate approx 90 houses and we have had one candidate call on a sunday afternoon about 2 weeks ago and other than that nobody. No canvassers and just a few leaflets that the postman delivered.

I can understand the lack of FF callers but you'd swear there wasn't an election going on at all.

Willie O'Dea called to my friends house in person, twice in 3 weeks. I think he has clones or was one of a set of quadruplets or something. I also heard a story about him being at 4 different masses in 4 different parishes one Sunday.

    johno

I had my first canvassers last night, two aul wans for FF. Went a little like this:

them-Hello we're canvassing for so and so
me- oh ok (trying to sneak a peak at the leaflets in her hand to see which party...FF)
    them- are your parents home?
    me- eh no
them- ok tell them we stopped by looking for their vote (giving me a leaflet)
    me- sure

I'm 23 and dont even live with my parents. I know I look a little young for my age but surely theres a difference between looking under 18 and 23. Gave me a laugh, thats one way to get rid of them.
