Crap GBB performance (in nearly ALL pistols) at the moment.

As there was a pistol game in the local skirmish site Sat
I started testing a good few of my pistols today.

Nearly everything I own fired between 2-6 shots before
failing to fire or venting any remaining gas.
I am totally disgusted at the moment!

The only exceptions were my KWA G26 and KWA USP Compact which almost fired 12-15 times
but I've no spare mags for them, and
I got 28 consecutive shots from my WA pistol on 134a even though the mag hissed at me when trying to fill it and I did not even warm it!
WE/KJW and others got 2-4 shots before venting gas from the magazines.

For the full metal pistols I tried 134a and Propane.

Is there something wrong with ALL of my pistols
or is it just the weather? I was firing indoors in a nice
warm house!!! (and I've over 20-25+ pistols!!!! maybe less I need to count)
    (and no gas left now)

Unfortunately for me I've no C02 pistols which is something I may
have to look into if I want to use one during a skirmish.

Just because you are in a nice warm house does not mean that the mags are warm
I test fired a KWA Glock 26 about 45 mins ago after doing a wee job on it and emptied the entire mag, some single shot and some bursts on full auto and when the finished there was still gas in the mag
Take the mags from the pistols and let them come up to room temp and try again

On the day that you want to use them tramsport them in your pants pocket so that they can be kept warm from being in contact with your leg and dont load them into your pistol until the game starts

I got a new respect for the KWA Brand!
I had taken everything out of the Wardrobe and they
were sitting there for months, so I just stripped and lubed
them before trying them. those two KWA's and the WA were the only ones that performed.

Also note to myself Dont leave the Propane Adapter screwed onto the tank! I thought I had more gas but I reckon its leaked over time.

Be careful Propane is heavier than air and is capable of lingering in low lying areas and staying there for Days/Weeks/Months with potential danger waiting for all smokers and or even tiny sparks for something as simple as a light switch

I normally use a Co2 1911 but didnt have any co2 so I used a Maruzen ppk/s last Sunday (cold enough day) and it's worked flawlessly and even got a couple of kills with it.

That said - I keep the mags in my pocket until I need 'em.;)

evilrobotshane was using a TM FN57 and he too got plenty of kills (I was one). Not sure how he stores the mags tho.

No Aidan, you brapped the grass with it... That doesn't count.:D

The Maruzen PPK/s is an absolute stunner for performance. It's light, so takes up little gas for its 22-round magazine, yet has a kick like a mule for something so small.

Yeah I did not try the PPK last night as I knew if would probably ok, I only have the one mag for it though, really must get a spare. And at some stage would like to get me one of the Metal PPK's

    hiya,

I've perfected a method for keeping my pistol firing no matter how cold the weather.
I purchased an inexpensive should holster (around €15), and I wear this under a jacket when skirmishing. This keeps the pistol and mags at near body temperature the entire time. Since using this method, I've had no issues whatsoever.
Even with the jacket unzipped (for a fast draw) the location of gun and mags near my armpits keeps them incredibly warm.

    I hope this is helpful.

not when you wear a plate carrier :P But its a good idea in general. Considering a covert holster to keep mine close for cold weather....

As has already been said, it's just the ambient temperature of the magazines causing them to vent much more, and the pressure to drop drastically.

It happens a lot...you just need to warm the mags to give greater pressure. Now, what I would recommend is filling them cold (more gas goes into the reservoir), and bringing them up to room temperature (as Deburca said) - I would avoid going any higher, as you'll just make the cool down effects worse.

    What pistols were you trying?

I tried most of my GBB's
Though I distinctly remember being able to get mag and a half
from 134a from my first P226 when I first bought it on non-hot days.
(Have not tried them since as Im out of propane and I've only a little 134a left.
134a seems to be scarce these days when it comes to Irish retailers stocking it)

    KJW P226 (two of them)
    KJW P229
    KJW M9
    WE M9 (two of them)
    WE M1911 (two of them)
Army Detonics x2(Both ABS and Metal) (faulty mags wont fill right)
Army 1911 (faulty mag though wont fill right)
    KWA USP compact
    KWA Glock 26C
    WA 5.1 SV infinity
Desert Eagle (cant remember the brand)
    Maruzen P99
    Browning x2 (Tanaka and WE)

Seems to me like your problem is that you don't have enough pistols, you should probably try get your hands on some more. Yeah 134a is practically disappeared because almost everyone just uses green gas.

WE 1911's have crap cool down. Small reservoir, and just don't deal well with Gas even on hot days. Still, they look nice. But yeah, by no means great performers ala gas consumption.

KJW M9 magazines can be alright in the cold, but in extreme cold they can even leak :S Happened to me at a skirmish in the Office Block.

WE M9's I have no experience with, but I assume it has the same mag issue with KJW, since they are apparently cross compatible.

KJW P226 & P229 I've had virtually no issue with in the cold once the mag was pre-warmed. If they were not warmed, they would vent in a puff of gas.

The Desert Eagle is either HFC (plastic), TM, or KWC (metal slide version, or full auto etc). KWC are pretty solid in terms of mags, all of which have impressed me. They seem to have a good degree of quality control, or at least more than other brands. No experience with the TM or HFC desert eagle.

KJW KP-05 is pretty damned impressive in the cold. 1 Mag + in very cold weather with conservative semi-auto fire. With rapid fire you'll get about a full mag.

PS: Seems like we share the same affinity for pistols :)

Def agree with inari regarding WE pistols, really nice to look at but as regards gas consumption they're poor enough. I still own one or 2 of their m1911's just for bling lol. I had one one of their socomgear m9's and good though it was it was just a wallhanger from october to march.
WE's new gbbr's, the m14 and particlarly the g36 are excellent though. Very surprised at how little cooldown there is with it even on a cold day, just a very efficient system.

KJW's are better but mags still need to be kept warm to be any good and i've had a fair bit of venting from p229 mags in the past.

KWA/KSC's are a step up again, i have a sys 7 m9 and usp and they are good. i easily get the full mag out of both with cooldown only noticable on the last few shots but still enough left to lock the slide back everytime.
I have non sys 7 kwa g17 as well but i don't find it as good.

Quality is quality though and i've still to see Tm let me down. i upgraded my g17 with a guarder slide and barrel and i was firing it with a smile on my face in the snow. Same goes for my p226 and hi capa. also have a kimber and MEU with full metal kits, which wouldn't be as efficent, there's a lot of heavy metal on there so i just stuff the mags in my pocket.

I still regret selling my maruzen ppk, that thing really surprised me in cool weather. Got one of those cheap chinese metal ppk's and while it's nice to look at, the internals are pretty poor imho and the supplied mag isn't the best but a maruzen mag does help things.

It's like anything with gas you just have to keep everything maintained, esp if they're lying idle for a good while. I'd regularly disassemble mags and reseat or replace any o rings, oil inlet and outlet valves and just tighten everthing up:)
